1, different ethanol concentrations:
(1) industrial alcohol contains 96% ethanol and 1% methanol;
(2) Edible methanol with an alcohol content not exceeding 0.06%;
(3) Medical alcohol also belongs to edible alcohol, but the ethanol content is 75%.
2. Different uses:
(1) Industrial alcohol can only be used as raw material or fuel for non-edible chemicals;
(2) Edible alcohol is mainly used in food industry;
(3) Medicinal alcohol can be used in pharmaceutical production, and can also be diluted into 75% medical disinfectant alcohol in proportion.
Second, the concepts of alcohol, industrial alcohol and medical alcohol:
1, edible alcohol (also known as fermented distilled liquor) is mainly made from potatoes, grains and sugars through cooking, saccharification and fermentation, and is used in food industry. Its flavor characteristics are divided into four parts: color, aroma, taste and body, namely, the content of four main impurities, aldehyde, acid, ester and alcohol, and different taste.
2. Medical alcohol is commonly known as ethanol: it is made from corn or other grains by saccharifying enzyme fermentation, with less impurities. It consists of 75% alcohol and 25% water (chemical formula: C2H5OH). At present, both medical and medicinal alcohol are products that conform to edible alcohol and have no special use.
3. Industrial alcohol, commonly known as methanol, is extracted from raw coal or petroleum, and contains a lot of impurities such as methanol and formaldehyde, which is difficult to separate. It consists of 95% ethanol, 5% methanol and formaldehyde (chemical formula: CH3OH). Because it contains harmful substances such as methanol, industrial alcohol should never be taken or used for human disinfection, because methanol will cause poisoning, and some of it will be absorbed by the skin when it is used for skin disinfection, which will be very serious after poisoning.
