Robotics Engineering for New Medical Applications ~ Honda Giken Kogyo Develops Walking Aid with ASIMO Robot Technology

Remember that cute robot ASIMO from Japan? Honda Techno Research Industries, the developer of ASIMO in Japan, has recently released a new product for medical rehabilitation called Honda Walking Asist, which utilizes the technology developed for ASIMO.

This product is designed to help patients who are ill or injured and have difficulty walking, to help them learn to walk again, and the Honda Walk Assist is equipped with a control system, built-in battery, and a unique thin drive motor to give the femoral joint the right amount of force to walk.

The best feature of this product is that it is easy to put on and take off, and weighs only about 2.7 kilograms, so it is not too much of a burden for the wearer. Using the attached tablet, you can switch the mode of the assistive device and adjust the force of the machine. The built-in lithium-ion battery can operate for up to an hour after a full charge.

The product is expected to go on sale in November, so check out the official website for more details.
