Vietnam's import tariffs

Tariffs on thousands of categories of imported goods to be reduced to zero in Vietnam in 20182018-01-09 ASEAN Business and Investment Summit Pham Tuan Anh, deputy director of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Finance, recently told a press conference on the 10 agreed-upon preferential tariff schedules for imported goods in Vietnam, saying that the government has recently issued a five-year (from January 1, 2018 to 2022-2023) Vietnam preferential tariff list of tariff lines for imported goods.

According to the table, tariffs on thousands of categories of Vietnamese imports will be reduced to zero in 2018.

The above agreement supplements provisions on in-quota and out-of-quota import duty rates, as well as provisions on the general rules and related notes on the categorization of goods in accordance with the Vietnam Import/Export Commodity List and the rules of implementation.

According to the agreement on the Vietnam-Eurasian Economic Union FTA preferential tariff schedule, there are 5,535 tariff items with zero tariffs until 2018, while 3,720 tariff items have been reduced to zero tariffs within 2018, such as: milk and dairy products, automobiles and their spare parts, iron and steel and their products.

As for the ASEAN-China FTA preferential tariff schedule agreement, those reduced to zero tariff from 5% & 10% in 2018 include: chicken, coffee, raw tea, food processing, textiles and garments, electrical and electronic equipment.

On the agreement on the preferential tariff schedule of the Vietnam-Japan FTA, in 2018*** there are 704 tax items with zero tariffs, focusing on fats, sugar, machinery and equipment.

On the agreement on the ASEAN FTA preferential tariff schedule, Vietnam has basically completed the 2015 ASEAN tariff elimination, and the remaining 7% of tariff items will be subject to flexible tariff rates by 2018, with the above goods mainly focusing on automobiles and motorcycles and their parts and accessories, vegetable oils, tropical fruits, refrigerators, air-conditioners, and dairy products and milk products, among others.
