Yang Changkui, Zi Jingyuan, Dong nationality, Sansui County, Guizhou Province. In the fifth year of Qing Xianfeng (A.D. 1855), he joined the Qing camp, participated in suppressing the peasant uprising, and returned to his hometown in the thirteenth year of Tongzhi (A.D. 1874). In the 10th year of Guangxu (AD 1884), the Sino-French War broke out, and Chang Kui ordered the old army to be called "Miao soldiers". In the spring of the following year, France occupied Nanguan town, and the Qing court awarded Chang Kui the position of commander in chief, leading his troops to the front to confront the French army. Chang Kui led the commanding general Feng Zicai, and after fierce struggle, he recovered the south gate of the town, followed suit and defeated Yuan Wen and Langzi. In the 20th year of Guangxu (A.D. 1894), the Sino-Japanese War broke out, and Chang Kui was ordered to go to Shandong to assist Governor Li Bingheng in handling military affairs and resisting the Japanese army. After the war, he moved to Jinan. In twenty-four years (AD 1898), he returned to Guizhou and served as the company commander of Anyi Town and Weining Town.
