Multi-drug-resistant bacteria (MDR) are bacteria that are resistant to conventional antibiotics. After infecting a patient and proper precautions are not taken, the bacteria can be spread through direct contact with the infected site, by the hands of medical personnel, indirectly through contaminated medical equipment or other items, and also through the fecal-oral route.
