Jiayuguan, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Gansu Province, is an important node city of the Gansu section of the Silk Road Economic Belt, a provincial sub-central city, and a nationally important metallurgical and advanced manufacturing base, as determined by the People's Government of Gansu Province. As of 2018, it has three streets and three towns under its jurisdiction, with a total area of 1,224 square kilometers. According to the seventh census data, as of 00:00 on November 1, 2020, the resident population of Jiayuguan City was 312,663 people.
Jiayuguan is located in northwestern China, northwestern Gansu, the western part of the Hexi Corridor, east of Jiuquan Suzhou District, southeast of Lanzhou 650 kilometers, northwest of Jiuquan Yumen City, northwestern Xinjiang Hami 650 kilometers, south of the Qilian Mountains and Zhangye Su'nan Yuguzu Autonomous County borders; north of the pillow of black mountain and the Jiuquan Jinta County is connected to the middle of the western edge of the Jiuquan oasis.
Jiayuguan is the ancient Silk Road, the western end of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall starting point, due to the national "First Five-Year Plan" key project of the Jiuquan Iron and Steel Company's construction of the emerging industrial tourism modernization of the regional center of the city, known as the "frontier lock and key," the title. The city is known as the "key to the frontier". Jiuquan Iron and Steel Group, the largest iron and steel joint venture in Northwest China, is known as the "Gobi Steel City".
Natural Resources of Jiayuguan City
The Cholai River runs through Jiayuguan City, with an average annual runoff of 658 million cubic meters, an annual net groundwater reserve of 732 million cubic meters, an annual recharge of 164 million cubic meters, and a permissible permissible exploitation of 111 million cubic meters per year, with the actual annual exploitation of only 0.46 billion cubic meters. There is also the Dacaotan Reservoir with a capacity of 64 million cubic meters as a regulation of industrial water.
As of 2010, the city's integrated water supply production capacity of 446,000 cubic meters per day, the water supply capacity is still a surplus of 252,000 cubic meters per day. The city's sewage treatment project, which treats 50,000 cubic meters of sewage per day, has been put into operation.
Jiayuguan's five types of minerals, namely iron ore, barite, limestone, dolomite and modeling clay, rank among the top three in Gansu Province. As of 2012, Jiayuguan City has 21 proven mineral resources with more than 40 origins, of which iron, manganese, copper, gold, limestone, manganese, modeling clay and barite are the dominant minerals.
Mirror Iron Mountain mine iron ore reserves of 483 million tons, is the largest pit mining metallurgical mines; Xigou limestone mine reserves of 206 million tons, for the open-pit mining, with an annual output of 800,000 tons; Dachaotan modeling clay reserves of 98 million tons. Neighboring areas also have considerable reserves of manganese pin mine and mining deposits of chromium, manganese, Ying Shi, glacier stone and other minerals.
