The hospital covers an area of more than 28,000 square meters and has 500 beds. There are 867 employees in the hospital, including 160 doctors, 262 nurses and 116 technicians. In addition to the first outpatient clinic, emergency clinic and the second outpatient clinic (complimentary medical care), the hospital has also opened the Yihe United Medical Center at the new port and the third outpatient clinic in the densely populated districts. The hospital has continued to enrich medical equipment, develop new technologies and improve the quality of medical care, especially in the past 10 years, the rapid development of the hospital, the establishment of the Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and Treatment Center in 1992, to fill the gaps in the local medical field, the hiring of specialists, a large number of advanced equipment, starting from a high standard, to carry out various cardiac surgery. The hospital has also established an ophthalmology center, a catheterization room, expanded the hemodialysis room and a central sterilized supply center, and in 1997 started the construction of a 17-story modern medical building at a cost of 450 million yuan, which was completed in 1999 to provide the public with even better services. The hospital also focuses on preventive health care, and in the past five years has invested a lot of manpower and material resources in organizing free health check-ups for ophthalmology, gynecology, otorhinolaryngology and hypertension. The hospital has cooperated with Zhongshan Medical University and Jinan University Medical School to establish teaching bases and become a teaching hospital of the two schools. The hospital has also been commissioned by the Macau government to run general practice refresher courses to raise the standard of Macau doctors so that medical care, research and teaching can develop in tandem.
At present, Kiang Wu Hospital has gradually become a modern general hospital, integrating medical treatment, prevention, teaching and scientific research. Kiang Wu Nursing and Midwifery School was founded in 1923, and in September 1998, it was upgraded to the scope of higher education. The hospital's financial sources are medical income, donations from all walks of life and government subsidies.
