Electrostatic Discharge Generator History Development
Electrostatic discharge (Electrostatic Discharge, ESD) immunity test is to simulate the operator or object in contact with the equipment when the discharge and people or objects on the adjacent object discharge, in order to assess the performance of the equipment subjected to ESD. ESD generator is to simulate the ESD process, immunity test prerequisites and bases. In the IEC61000-4-2 standard, the composition of the ESD generator, performance requirements and waveform calibration are more detailed. The current domestic and foreign ESD generator products are basically divided into two categories: EM-TEST's DITO as a representative of the handheld ESD generator and Noiseken's ESS-2002 as a representative of the discharge gun and the host of the separate structure of the ESD generator. (1) The high-voltage generator and the discharge switch of the hand-held ESD generator are centralized in the discharge gun, which has its own battery. Advantage is greater mobility, testing large equipment, the advantage is obvious; easy to operate, you can set the parameters directly on the gun; disadvantage is the output voltage is low, slow charging speed, discharge voltage is low, highly integrated resulting in high prices. (2) Separate ESD generator high-voltage generator part and control part placed in the host, the discharge part placed in the gun. Advantage is that the output voltage is high, fast charging speed, can realize continuous high-speed discharge test; disadvantage is the mobility is poor, need to move the discharge gun; operation is not convenient, need to go back and forth between the test piece and the host. These two types of ESD generators have their own advantages and disadvantages, but they exist *** with the same shortcomings: due to the test process can not be measured in the source circuit of the current waveform and the test specimen ends of the residual voltage waveform, which will not only lead to errors or even errors in the test results, but also can not be on the characteristics of the ESD process and the destruction of the mechanism of the varistor and other protective devices such as the ESD characteristics of the research.
