Changzheng Hospital's predecessor was "Baolong Hospital", which was renamed "National Tongji University Hospital" in 1930, and then changed several times. In May 1956, it merged with the Shanghai Emergency Surgery Hospital of the People's Liberation Army to become the Second Affiliated Hospital of the Second Military Medical University, and in October 1966, it was officially called "Shanghai Long March Hospital".
