Blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) is the volume of oxygen-bound oxyhemoglobin (HbO2) in the blood as a percentage of the volume of all bindable hemoglobin (Hb, hemoglobin), i.e., the concentration of blood oxygen in the blood, which is an important physiological parameter of the respiratory cycle.
And functional oxygen saturation is the ratio of the concentration of HbO2 to the concentration of HbO2+Hb, as distinct from the percentage of oxygenated hemoglobin. Thus, monitoring arterial blood oxygen saturation (SaO2) provides an estimate of the oxygenation and hemoglobin oxygen-carrying capacity of the lungs. Normal human arterial blood has an oxygen saturation of 98% and venous blood 75%.

General Recognition of the SpO2 should be no less than 94% of the normal, and below 94% is considered insufficient oxygen supply. 94% or less is considered insufficient oxygen supply. Some scholars set SpO2<90% as the standard of hypoxemia, and believe that when the SpO2 is higher than 70% accuracy can be ± 2%, SpO2 is lower than 70% can have error.
Clinically, we have compared the SpO2 values of several patients with the arterial oxygen saturation values, and believe that the SpO2 readings reflect the patient's respiratory function and, to some extent, the changes in arterial oxygen.
Post-thoracic surgery patients, in addition to individual cases of clinical symptoms and values inconsistent with the need for blood gas analysis, the routine application of pulse oximetry monitoring can provide meaningful indicators for clinical observation of changes in the condition of the patient to avoid repeated blood collection, but also to reduce the workload of nurses, it is worth promoting. Clinical generally greater than 90% can be, of course, for different departments.
