How to prevent electrical safety hazards?

In life, the most inconspicuous safety hazard lies in the life we can't live without every day: electricity and gas.

The first is the electrical fire.

According to statistics, in the national fire data in 2020, there were 85,000 fires caused by violation of electrical installation and use regulations, accounting for 33.6% of the total number of fires, equivalent to 232 electrical fires every day. Faults such as overload, short circuit, electric leakage and overheating caused by electric arc account for nearly 90% of the causes of electrical fires. The fire caused by short circuit alone accounts for about 50% of the total number of electrical fires, and the fire caused by electrical lines accounts for more than 50% of the total number of electrical fires.

Simply put, current passing through a conductor will generate heat, which will increase geometrically with the increase of current. Once the heat is too high, the temperature of the line or equipment will be too high, which will lead to spontaneous combustion or ignition and fire. Specifically, it is all the links that constitute the electrical system: electrical lines, electrical equipment, power supply and distribution equipment, etc. As long as there is current passing through, it may cause an electrical fire.

Followed by electric shock.

The damage of electric shock to human body mainly includes electric shock and electric injury, which can lead to slight muscle contraction, tissue damage, respiratory paralysis, atrial fibrillation and even death. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, more than 8,000 people die from electric shock every year. Some electric shock phenomena are very common in electrical scenes, such as outdated electrical equipment, wet and exposed connectors, which will cause insulation failure, and disorderly wiring will also increase the risk of electric shock. In China, low voltage accounts for more than 80% of electric shock deaths in high and low voltage power systems. However, electric shock is not inevitable, and electric shock prevention needs a multi-pronged approach. By improving the "stress ability" of the electrical system, insulation protection builds a line of defense against electric shock, a safe operation and maintenance environment and a "healthy" operating state of the electrical system, and can also block the further spread of danger in time. Schneider Electric has developed a series of software and hardware solutions, which can monitor the leakage fault in advance, protect the power consumption place in real time from three aspects: eliminating hidden dangers, physical barriers and remote operation and maintenance, and avoid electric shock accidents.

The third is electric explosion.

Electrical explosion is usually related to power distribution system and equipment, such as short circuit, overload, excessive contact resistance, or problems of electrical equipment itself, fire of flammable materials near equipment, and use of non-explosion-proof electrical equipment in the presence of explosive gas or dust. More than half of the electrical explosions in the workplace are caused by arc flash. Arc is a form of air ionization discharge, and its duration is generally less than 1 sec. The core temperature of arc column can reach 20000℃, which has extremely high radiation energy and explosiveness. In a few milliseconds, it will bring burns, visceral damage and even death threats to the human body. When the switch is turned on or off, it will produce arc flash, accompanied by light and heat. When a lot of heat and pressure are released into the environment, arc flash becomes arc explosion. Although the occurrence of arc explosion is instantaneous, it takes some time for the arc itself to form a potential threat. Therefore, in order to prevent such electrical accidents, it is necessary to completely eliminate hidden dangers, optimize product and system design, and realize physical barrier and digital empowerment remote operation and maintenance. Only when these three means are closely coordinated, can the possibility of electrical explosion be eliminated more confidently, the safety, health and sustainability of the electrical environment can be ensured, and the personal safety of employees can be protected. Strive to build a safer and smarter electric new world and provide more reliable personal safety guarantee for everyone.
