In 2012, with the approval of the Shanghai Municipal Health Bureau, the hospital category was changed from a general hospital to a combined Chinese and Western medicine hospital.
In order to build a tertiary combined traditional Chinese and Western medicine hospital and an affiliated hospital of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine with rehabilitation medicine as its specialty, the construction of the rehabilitation medicine building invested by Pudong New Area Government has begun. The overall construction area of the building is about 30,000 square meters, within the rehabilitation medicine center, will be in accordance with the standards and scale of modern rehabilitation medicine disciplines, secondary sub-specialties set up and the type of disease in the ward design layout, which rehabilitation medicine center - rehabilitation ward set up in the first batch of 200 beds; rehabilitation clinic set up neurological disorders rehabilitation room, The Rehabilitation Diagnostic and Treatment Department has set up rehabilitation rooms for neurological diseases, orthopedic diseases (paraplegia, etc.), pediatrics (cerebral palsy), organ diseases, speech (ST), exercise (PT), and occupational therapy (OT) treatment rooms. The goal is to create first-class facilities, advanced medical equipment, with a leading level of rehabilitation medicine specializing in the combination of Chinese and Western medicine as the characteristics of Shanghai's important resources for rehabilitation medicine.
The hospital will implement the creation standards in strict accordance with the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine's "Implementation Rules for the Evaluation of Level III Hospitals for Integrative Medicine and Western Medicine", and relying on the resources and platform of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SUTCM), the hospital will comprehensively enhance its capacity to provide services of integrative Chinese and Western medicine and comprehensive services, and will strive to achieve the goal of creating a Level III Hospital for Integrative Chinese and Western Medicine and a Hospital Affiliated to the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (non-directly subordinate to the hospital) in two to three years.
