The movie tells the story of a young boy, Michael, who needs a new heart and is not on the hospital's transplant list. Seeing that his son is going to die if he doesn't get a new heart, his father, John, does something out of the ordinary.
Drama: Living a modest life, John Q. Archibald (Denzel Washington) is a sold-out factory worker. In order to support their family, the two couples are on the verge of breaking up their marriage due to growing indifference. To add insult to injury, misfortune strikes their 9-year-old son, Michael.
One day, Michael suddenly fainted on the baseball field, and when John sent his son to the hospital, he learned that his son suffered from severe congenital heart disease and needed a heart transplant to save his life, and that the high cost of the surgery far exceeded his health insurance coverage. After several unsuccessful attempts to communicate with John, hospital executives decided to take them off the transplant waiting list.
The move angered John, who is a father. He angrily broke into the hospital's emergency room with a gun, kidnapped innocent medical staff and patients as hostages, and demanded that the hospital operate on his son immediately. This battle of humanity, which challenges morality and law, is not as simple as it seems.
