Questions about having a hamster

Hamster a male and a female is not a matter of importance. It's okay to keep them together, but they will mate with each other!

My family has a hamster, very good. But you have to pay attention to some little common sense oh, let me tell you ......

How to keep a hamster

The optimal temperature is 20-28 ℃, avoid direct sunlight or direct wind blowing to the place, but pay attention to ventilation. Don't be too close to TV, stereo, computer, hamsters can hear sounds that humans can't hear, radiation and noise should be avoided.

Summer: It is best not to turn on the air conditioner, because when you go out and turn off the air conditioner, and then turn on the air conditioner when you come in the house, it will make the temperature difference inside the house too big, and the rats are very sensitive to the temperature, so they will easily catch a cold.

Winter: don't put it outside, the rat will hibernate because it is too cold. Spread more wood shavings and other bedding materials, and configure a wooden or grass hut for the rat to keep warm. Or give more napkins to rats to make their own nests. The easiest way is to put the whole cage into a cardboard or plastic box, but pay attention to ventilation.

Basics for rats and mice

Cage

Food bowl

Most cages come with their own food bowl. If you need to buy your own, small containers are generally available, as long as they are not easily knocked over and the edges are not too high for the rat to climb into. Commonly used containers: glass cigarette jar, soy sauce dish, all kinds of small bowls, microwave oven box. Current price: 3-10 RMB

Drinker

Most cages come with a drinker, and it's a good idea to install one when DIYing, because rats need to drink water. Drinkers are generally designed with a stainless steel bead at the front end, so be careful to test for leaks when purchasing. Don't take a bowl to hold the water directly, because rats will wet their fur when drinking water or swim in it, so they will easily catch a cold and get sick. If you don't have one, feed your rat more vegetables and fruits.

Toilet

A regular plastic box filled with cat litter is a simple toilet. Remove the clumped litter every day or change it all out, depending on your personal hygiene habits. The rats raised by people who love cleanliness are also cleaner.

Bathing room

Some rats will use cat litter to bathe in the toilet, which is unhygienic, but it is the rat's preference, and there is no longer a need for a bathing room at this time. However, if some rats love to be clean, the owner should buy a bathing room for them, and put in the bathing sand for the rats to roll around, and play holes as much as they want. Use disinfected bathing sand, or wash the sand yourself, put it in the microwave oven to sterilize and dry it, and mix it with talcum powder to make bathing sand for use. It's best not to use talcum powder directly because it's too irritating and can easily hurt your rat's eyes.

Running Wheel

Most of the cages come with running wheels, because wild rats run 20 kilometers a day, so a moderate amount of exercise is very important to the rats, without enough exercise, the rats will be too stressed and fight with each other, chewing on the cage and other behaviors. So careful owners should give their rats a running wheel. At the same time, because nowadays the owners give the rats very good nutrition, often make the rats overweight, easy to make the rats also get cardiovascular disease, so even the rats should have a normal and healthy body. Be careful when you buy, you should choose the running wheel without seams, the rat is not easy to be injured. Current price: $10-80

Wood shavings

To be the bedding material for the rat's cage, a lot of materials can be used, but most people will choose wood shavings because it is cleaner and easier to get. Be careful when using paper bedding, don't use printed paper, the ink is toxic and the rats will be poisoned.

Teething stone/teething stick

The rat's teeth will keep growing, so a teething stick is needed to grind down overgrown teeth.

Hut

Hut has ceramic, wooden, grass, plastic, rats love it, because rats are animals that love to live in holes, if you have the conditions, you should give rats with a hut. Current price: 10-45 yuan

Timetable

Take the hamster home, because it left the environment has been living, left the mother and siblings, there will be a relatively long time to seem very sensitive, nervous is lost, sometimes there will be biting, dazed, refused to eat, etc., and this period of time is a key period of time for you to establish trust with the rat, if not dealt with properly later on If you don't handle it well, it will be hard to build a good relationship, and your rat may become a bad rat that bites people all the time! Here's a timetable, don't be in a hurry, get along with your rat a little at a time:

Day 1: Let it get used to its new environment, don't harass it at all, don't touch it, and don't take it to and from the house

Day 2: Feed it with your hand, talk to it softly and let it get familiar with your scent and your voice

Day 5: Gently pick it up and put it in your hand (don't let it fall or run away)

Day 7: Gently pick it up, and put it in your hand. Day 10: You can play with it as much as you want

Be careful when picking up your hamster: sleeping hamsters don't like to be disturbed, so make sure it's awake before you pick it up. You should ruffle its nest so that it can see you before picking it up gently, and don't force it to do so if it doesn't want to be picked up.

Food for rats

Edible food:

Vegetables Green vegetables (e.g., Aoji-kai), carrots, squash (greenish-yellow vegetables are good) Seeds Sunflower seeds, peanuts, walnuts, pine nuts (don't give them too much) Fruits Apples, strawberries, cherries, bananas, grapes (don't give them too much because they contain a lot of sugar) Grains Feed for chickens, doves, birds, wheat, corn, millet. Wheat, corn, millet Plant Clover, dandelion, kudzu, plantain Animal protein Beef, chicken, egg white, cheese, milk, yogurt, worms, dried fish for pets

Feeding amount: It is easy to supply hamsters with too much or not too little food, because hamsters have the habit of storing food, and will be very uneasy if there is less food. So, if you find the food bowl always empty every time you add food it means the food is added too little, and you should also pay attention to clean up the uneaten food in time, especially the fruits and other things with moisture to prevent spoilage. Hamster's home

There are three kinds of hamster's home: cage (usually made of iron), plastic (or acrylic), aquarium (glass shell), these kinds of nests have ordinary, luxury respectively, to do no matter which kind of need is, water feeder, dinner plate, rotating wheel and other basic equipment, the most basic things are indispensable, otherwise how to let it eat and sleep properly?

Floor plates, runner safety first

Warm wood shavings or pasture grass is also good for hamsters to keep warm, and other can also be used for small animals special sand. Good wood shavings, pasture and sand can deodorize and keep the environment clean and hygienic, so it's a good choice if used in combination.

Toys, such as spinning wheels, preferably without gaps so as not to get stuck in the hamster's feet, as well as small nests (for one or two objects), teeter-totters and other ..... You can choose a wooden one, which will be less problematic for the hamster to chew on, and will also prevent the hamster's teeth from growing too long.

Countermeasures in summer and winter

To make hamsters comfortable and at ease, we need to pay attention to the weather, especially in these two seasons, to make sure that hamsters are comfortable.

The heat is worse than the cold for hamsters, which originally lived in the desert, so why would they be afraid of the heat? That's because hamsters rest in cool tunnels during the day and come out at night.

In the summer, the plastic or aquarium will become like a steamer, so you can replace the cage with one that is ventilated. In addition, the place where you put the cage is also very important, make sure you don't put it in a place where it will be exposed to direct sunlight, such as near a window. Hamsters in direct sunlight can cause dehydration, or other lesions, or even death.

And pay attention to ventilation, but do not give the hamster air-conditioning, electric fans are fine.

Winter is less of a problem in **climates**, as long as you pay attention to keep warm, such as Japan and other places with cold winters, you may be able to use small animal heaters.

Hamster escapes!!!!

Anyone who owns a hamster has experienced a hamster escaping. Usually it's the owner's inattention, and even if they pay attention, the hamster will escape in ways that the owner can't even imagine.

In my experience, the cage should not be equipped in such a way that the hamster can step or climb on it. Also, the cage material should not be so fragile that the hamster will chew around the cage and cause it to break and escape. A loose cage door can also be opened by the hamster.

Male and female hamsters are kept separately

Hamsters are very fragile animals in the wild, so each time they give birth, they give birth to many offspring, so they can achieve ecological balance when they encounter carnivorous predators. However, as pets, it is not possible to do so. When males and females are together, the number of hamsters will keep increasing if they are not properly controlled.

Additionally, males have a strong sense of place when they become adults, and will fight fiercely with other hamsters. Therefore, it is best to separate them as soon as you notice the fights.

Bathing is not afraid of drops, just put some water in the vessel, throw him in on the line, and then get some shower gel (attention Oh, a little bit is enough) applied to him, then rinse with water, wipe dry, and then thrown into the cat's litter, he will lick himself dry.

There is also an iron bar for him, a thin one, he has to grind his teeth, and you can buy a teething stick if you have the means to do so.

Keep this in mind !!!!!!!!!
