Introduction to fecal microbiota transplantation

Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is defined as the transplantation of functional bacteria from the feces of a healthy person into the gastrointestinal tract of a patient to rebuild a new intestinal flora for the treatment of intestinal and extra-intestinal diseases. It is also known as Fecal transplantation, Fecal bacteriotherapy and Intestinal microbiota transplantation by a few people, which can be translated as "fecal transplantation" respectively, "Fecal bacteriotherapy" and "Intestinal microbiota transplantation" or "Intestinal microbiota transplantation", respectively. To date, there have been approximately 10,000 cases of fecal transplants worldwide.
