Academician is the highest academic title in science and technology established by certain countries, and is generally a lifetime honor. In China, an academician usually refers to an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences or an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
The Chinese central government grants special allowances to academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Since January 1, 2009, China's central government has significantly increased the allowance for academicians of the two academies from 200 yuan per person per month to 1,000 yuan per person per month, and for newly elected academicians of the two academies in the future, academician's allowance will be paid from the month of their election.
The senior academician's allowance is RMB 10,000 per person per year, and the senior academician's allowance is exempt from personal income tax.
