Shantou International Ophthalmology Center of Shantou University Medical College Affiliated Hospital

It is a medical and healthcare institution directly under the Guangdong Provincial Department of Health, a specialized hospital affiliated to Shantou University, and a post-doctoral mobile station of Shantou University The center occupies an area of about 10 acres, with a floor space of about 10,000 square meters, 100 beds, and 8 modern operating rooms. The center has strong technical force, with 241 employees, including 147 medical and nursing staff, 21 senior titles, 25 doctoral and master's degree holders, 2 doctoral supervisors and 5 master's supervisors. In the past seven years, the center has developed rapidly and become famous, with an accumulated outpatient volume of nearly 600,000, an in-hospital surgical volume of about 30,000, and a completed surgical volume of more than 40,000 for poverty alleviation activities.

The center has multilateral cooperation with the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Li Ka Shing Foundation, **** the same management. The Chinese University of Hong Kong regularly sends groups of Hong Kong and international experts to the hospital for consultation and diagnosis of difficult eye diseases, academic lectures, scientific research and cooperation, and opened a distance learning with the Eye Hospital of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The Center has international first-class modern ophthalmic medical equipment worth nearly 45 million dollars, and has 9 specialties and 10 modern professional laboratories. It cooperates with the Chinese University of Hong Kong to conduct clinical and basic research, as well as to train doctoral and master's degree students.

Over the past few years, the center has made remarkable achievements in hospital construction under the leadership of the president, Prof. Lin Shunchao, who successfully passed the acceptance of the national "211" project in 2002, and was approved as a master's degree-granting point of ophthalmology in 2003, and co-trained doctoral students with the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2004; approved as a national clinical drug trial base in 2005; and approved as a national clinical drug trial base in 2005; and approved as a national clinical drug trial base in 2005. In 2005, the center was approved as a National Clinical Drug Trial Base; in 2005, it became one of the three examination centers for ICO ophthalmologists in China (Shantou, Beijing and Guangzhou). The Center is also the Shantou Office of the Chinese "Health Express" Sight Restoration Project of the Ministry of Health, the base of the "Health Express" Microsurgery Training Center, and the Shantou Office of the "Bright Eyes Project" of China's Great Action for Poverty Alleviation and Literacy. In the past few years, the center has undertaken 4 projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China, 1 international horizontal cooperation project, 10 provincial and departmental scientific research projects, 11 municipal scientific research projects, won the first prize of Municipal Scientific and Technological Progress Award, and published more than one hundred academic papers, among which, 27 international SCI papers were published.

The center pays great attention to carrying out medical poverty alleviation work and is committed to building a culture of dedication at the same time of rapid development. At present, the hospital undertakes four major poverty alleviation projects, namely, "Care is the Trend", "Bright Eyes Project", "Health Express Microsurgery Training Center", "China Health Express Train Project", "China Health Express Train Project", "China Health Express Train Project", "China Health Express Train Project", and "China Health Express Train Project". At present, the hospital undertakes the medical work of four major poverty alleviation programs, namely "Care is the Trend", "Bright Eyes Project", "Health Express Microsurgery Training Center" and "China Health Express Train Program", and the footprint of poverty alleviation has spread to sixteen provinces across the country, and the number of cataract surgeries performed for poverty alleviation has reached more than 40,000, and the hospital has set up the distance education network covering sixteen provinces across the country and has trained nearly 1,000 grass-roots medical and nursing personnel. The center has been received by Vice Premier Wu Yi and other national leaders and highly appreciated by people from various circles. In addition, the center has successfully advocated voluntary cornea donation activities, and has become the first organization in China to advocate free cornea donation by linking up with the Hong Kong Eye Bank as a "sister" bank.
