Hunter "Patch" Adams. As a teenager, Hunter "Patch" Adams was hospitalized in a mental institution for depression. After his release from the institution, he aspired to become a doctor and enrolled in the Medical College of Virginia in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Although he was gifted and excelled in medical school, he was very much opposed to the high-minded, impersonal mentality of the traditional medical profession. He believed that laughter was the best prescription, and in order to make sick patients laugh, he wore brightly colored floral shirts all day long, sometimes pretending to be a clown's red nose with plastic medical supplies, or pretending to be a gorilla, and even once, in order to realize the dream of a patient, he put noodles all over the swimming pool, so that the patient could swim in the noodle soup as he wished. In order to bring joy and hope to his patients, he did everything he could, but his deviant ideas and practices were seen as an eyesore by the conservative medical dean, who threatened to withdraw him from the school. However, he insisted on his philosophy of caring for the patients and putting the patients in the first place, and fought against the traditional forces to the end, and finally succeeded in obtaining his medical degree, and after graduation, he set up a "health center" to put his ideas into practice, and to help the patients to live out their dreams and to make a difference. After graduation, he set up a "Wellness Center", which thoroughly practiced his philosophy of building a medical environment full of laughter for patients.
