Questions about studying medicine in the United States

I. Undergraduate major: If you want to go to the United States to study medicine, then you need to first read a bachelor's degree, the major is not limited, usually "biology, biochemistry". Suggested courses to take are:

(1) Mathematics: Calculus, Statistics;

(2) Chemistry: College Chemistry and Lab, Organic Chemistry and Lab;

(3) Biology: College Biology and Lab;

(4) Physics: College Physics and Lab;

(5) Humanities and Social Sciences: English, History, Literature writings, foreign languages, philosophy, art, sociology, economics, political science, anthropology, psychology.

Two, the school & GPA requirements: medical school selection is very strict, the college GPA (that is, the average point of all college course grade scores) total score in general shall not be less than 3.6, the better the undergraduate on the application the more favorable.

Three, MCAT (Medical College Admission Test) scores, at least 30 points or more. MCAT test, the entry test into medical school, is a computer-based test offered by the Association of American Medical Colleges. The MCAT is a standardized multiple-choice test specifically designed to test candidates' problem-solving skills, emergency thinking, writing skills, scientific knowledge, and principles of medicine. The exam is divided into three sections, Literature, Physics (including Inorganic Chemistry), and Biology (including Organic Chemistry), each of which is worth 15 points. The exam also includes two propositional writing pieces, which are scored in a different way, with a minimum of J and a maximum of T, and are marked by two different examiners. The final score is formatted as "number + letter", e.g., the highest score for the four tests is 45 T. The MCAT is said to be a more difficult test than the GRE, GMAT, etc. It has a large number of questions, and sometimes the questions are very difficult. It has a large number of questions, sometimes several pages on a single topic, and is designed to test a candidate's ability to read and comprehend quickly. The content of the exam covers many little-known subject areas and is very deep and obscure. the possibility of getting a perfect score on the MCAT is almost zero. Generally speaking, a total score of 30P on the MCAT can be admitted to general medical schools, 32P can be admitted to key medical schools, and 35P or more can be admitted to top medical schools such as Harvard Medical School.The higher the score on the MCAT, the greater the hope of admission. It's worth pointing out that when preparing for the MCAT, candidates can't emphasize literature, physics, and biology, but must do both.

Four, have a relevant experimental background and volunteer experience: applicants must have relevant scientific experiments and volunteer experience in the hospital. Medical school admissions examiners believe that a college student should have experience working in a hospital before studying medicine, rather than knowing nothing about hospital work. Volunteer hours typically require 400-500 hours. Hospital volunteer hours that are too short will affect a student's competitiveness for admission.

Studying medicine in the U.S. is not a straight path, so work hard! I wish you success!
