Location

Mudanjiang City is located in the southeast of Heilongjiang Province, located in the hinterland of the "Golden Triangle" surrounded by China, Russia, and North Korea, and is bordered on the north by Yilan County of Harbin City and Boli County of Qitaihe City, and on the west by Wuchang, Shangzhi, and Founder Counties of Harbin City, and on the south by Wangling County of Jilin Province. In the south, it is adjacent to Wangqing County and Dunhua City in Jilin Province, and in the east, it is adjacent to Jixi City and Jidong County, and shares a border with Russia.

Landscape

The central part of the city is the Mudanjiang River Valley Basin, where the whole area is mountainous and rolling, with rivers running across it, and is known as "Nine parts of mountain and water, one part of field". The topography of the city is mountainous and hilly, showing four geological forms: the middle mountains, the low mountains, the hills, and the river valley basin.

The average altitude of the city is 230 meters, and the highest altitude in Mudanjiang is located in the Baitu Mountain of Zhangguangcailing, which is 1,686.9 meters above sea level, while the lowest altitude is located in the border area between Suifenhe City and Russia, which is 86.5 meters.
