Roman Roland said: "There is no great character, there is no great man, not even a great artist, a great actor." What does success depend on? Hard work, learning, intelligence, opportunity, genius, and so on, everyone can list their reasons for success. In the journey towards success, the above factors, more or less, will point out the way forward for you. But as Romain Rolland said, great character is indispensable. It is the character and integrity of a man that is paramount to his success.
We look at a widely circulated in the United States workplace example:
The United States of California's digital image development limited company needs to recruit a technical engineer, there is a young man called Danforth through the written test, into the final interview, he was in an empty conference room, waiting apprehensively. After a while, a plain-looking, plainly dressed old man came in. Danforth stood up politely. The old man stared straight at Danforth for nearly five minutes. When Danfoer was at a loss for words, the old man grabbed Danfoer's hand and said excitedly, "I really didn't expect to see you here, but let me find you! If not for you last time, I may never see my daughter again!"
"I'm sorry, I don't understand what you mean." Danforth returned with a confused look on his face.
"Last time, during a trip to Forest Park, it was you, you were the one who rescued my daughter from the river after she lost her footing!" The old man said with certainty. Danforth understood what happened, it turned out that he mistook Danforth as his daughter's savior.
"Sir, you must be mistaken! It wasn't me who saved your daughter!"
"It's you, it's you, there can be no mistake!" Again the old man replied with certainty.
Danforth, faced with this grateful old man, could only try to explain, "Sir, it really wasn't me! I haven't been to the park you mentioned so far!"
Hearing this, the old man let go of his hand and looked at Danforth with disappointment: "Did I recognize the wrong person?"
Danforth comforted the old man: "Sir, don't be anxious, slowly look for, will be able to find the benefactor to save your daughter!"
Later, Danforth received a notice of employment. One day, he met the old man again. Danforth greeted him with concern and asked him, "Has your daughter's benefactor been found?"
"No, I never found him!" The old man walked away silently. With a heavy heart, Danforth told a colleague next to him about the interview that day. Unexpectedly that coworker laughed out loud, "Is he pathetic? He is the president of our company, his daughter fell into the water story told many times, in fact, he has no daughter!"
"Oh?" Danforth was puzzled, the colleague continued, "Our president is through this incident to choose talent. He said that only those with virtue are moldable!"
Danforth was hired, dedicated, and soon stood out as the company's manager of technology development, a year for the company won 20 million dollars in profits. When the president retired, Danforth inherited the position of president. Later, he talked about his own success experience, said: "a virtuous person, will absolutely win the trust of others!"
Pilux, a behaviorist at Harvard University in the United States, pointed out in the book, "Being a man is not a matter of setting a few requirements, but to start from their own fundamentals, to turn themselves into a person of virtue, otherwise you will never win the trust of others, let alone talk about the success of life, but instead of life sooner or later collapse of the. "
In fact, character is extremely important for everyone, especially for managers who are in high positions and model their subordinates. Character consists of principles and values that give direction, meaning and substance to your life. Character constitutes your conscience, so that you understand what is right and wrong, rather than judging it only according to the law or a code of conduct. Integrity, honesty, courage, fairness, generosity, and other virtues become paramount when we are faced with important choices.
Many people believe that success is based on talent, ability, and connections. But history teaches us that in the long run, the "real me" is more important than the "me in the eyes of others". All the stories of success and self-struggle, both ancient and modern, focus on the virtues of the people involved. It is only when we are virtuous that we can have true fulfillment and satisfaction in our lives.
Our ancestors said thousands of years ago, "Cultivate the body, unify the family, rule the country, and pacify the world," so why put the cultivation of the body in the first place? That is, whether you are looking for someone to do, or do anything, cultivation is a prerequisite, there is no basis for cultivation, everything is tantamount to a castle in the air. And the cultivation of the body is more inclined to moral issues.
Cultivation is not limited to age, and can be started at any time, the trick is to know oneself, and to push oneself to others. From the point of view of "self-cultivation", the victory of the ego must be achieved before the victory of the big ego can be realized. If you make a habit of cultivating your character through the small things in life, you will be more capable of molding the perseverance to cope with the big things in the future.
Weapons can kill, but they cannot conquer hearts. It is not the weapon that can conquer the heart, but the character.
There was a young man who was very short-tempered and often fought with others, and everyone disliked him.
One day, the young man wandered unintentionally to the Daitoku Temple and happened to hear a Zen master giving a talk. After hearing this, he vowed to change his ways, so he said to the Zen master, "Master, I will never fight or quarrel with others again, lest people get annoyed with me, and even if people spit in my face, I will just patiently wipe it away and suffer in silence!"
The Zen master listened to the youth's words and said with a smile, "Hey, why bother? Just let the saliva dry on its own, why bother wiping it off?"
Upon hearing this, the youth was somewhat surprised and asked the Zen master, "How is that possible? Why put up with it like that?"
The Zen master said, "There's nothing that can or can't be endured, just think of it as a mosquito or something resting on your face, it's not worth fighting with or cursing it. It's not an insult to be spat on, but just smile and take it!"
The youth then asked, "What if the other person, instead of spitting, comes at you with his fist?"
The Zen master replied, "Isn't it the same? Don't be too concerned! It's only a punch."
Hearing this, the youth thought that the Zen master was really outrageous, and finally, unable to hold back, he raised his fist and punched the Zen master in the head, and asked, "Monk, what now?"
The Zen master said with great concern, "My head is hard as a rock and doesn't really feel anything, but your hand probably hurts from the blow, doesn't it?" The youth froze, already speechless.
What the Zen master told the youth was "virtue", and "virtue" is not just empty words, but practical action. It is this that gives it its power to shock.
Talent is not enough, only the power of morality is invincible. For any field, morality is the first factor to win, the ability alone can not form the power, the noble moral character will be applied to the actual action in order to show the results.
Whether it is the workplace to fight, or for people to deal with, people must remember one thing: no matter who, if you want to get other people's trust, respect and even obedience, you have to cultivate their own character, so that it is as silent spring rain, out of the silt and mud is not stained by the summer lotus, the cold alone put the winter plum......
