January 24, 2020, New Year's Eve, SAIC Datsun Wuxi Shenlian Special Purpose Vehicle Co., Ltd. received an urgent order from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology: delivery of 60 negative-pressure ambulances before February 5, to support Hubei to fight the epidemic.
The normal production cycle of these vehicles takes 1 month, but now it is compressed to 10 days, which makes the task difficult to imagine. SAIC Datsun Wuxi Shenlian accepted this difficult task without saying a word.
The company management held an emergency meeting overnight to discuss the implementation of the program. On the first day of the Lunar New Year, the staff returned to the factory and the factory resumed work. The whole company made concerted efforts, with responsibility and affection, racing against time and the epidemic, working overtime to carry out the task, making its own contribution to the anti-epidemic blockade, and setting a new record in the history of China's automobile manufacturing.
The following is the oral transcript of the interview with Lv Zhiming, Executive Vice General Manager of SAIC Datsun Wuxi Shenlian, conducted by Help Ning Studio.
After receiving the task of 60 negative-pressure ambulances from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Mr. Xu Hongyi (deputy general manager of SAIC Datsun and general manager of SAIC Datsun Wuxi Shenlian) immediately called several leaders to a special meeting. From New Year's Eve (January 24th) to February 5th, we were given just 10 days. The company immediately decided, from the first day of the year, the factory resumed production.
Negative-pressure ambulances, also called protective ambulances, are mainly used to transport infectious patient groups. It can be based on the principle of negative pressure isolation of new or sudden infectious diseases to implement emergency treatment, to maximize the avoidance of cross-infection of doctors and patients, as well as the pollution of the external environment, to prevent further spread of the epidemic.
On the morning of the first day, the backbone of SAIC Datsun's technology, purchasing, logistics and production departments were all present to discuss the production program together, mainly to discuss how to compress the production and renovation cycle, which originally took 30 days, to 10 days for completion.
The so-called 30 days, from the receipt of the order, to the base car production, to the completion of production by the modified car company to modify the entire process. Generally speaking, the production of a negative pressure ambulance is divided into the base car and conversion of two steps, in which the base car production takes 2 weeks, the conversion also takes 2 weeks to go through the process of foam insulation treatment, wiring, interior installation, electrical, medical equipment installation, installation of negative pressure facilities.
According to the normal automobile production cycle, these 10 days can't even build 1 base car. In addition, coinciding with the Spring Festival holiday and the spread of the epidemic special period, to complete the task as scheduled is even more difficult. After discussion, the company decided to make modifications on the basis of the base car order placed before the Spring Festival.
Fortunately, we received an order for 100 MAXUS?V80 base cars just before the Spring Festival.
With the base model, we were able to save about two weeks, but it was still difficult to ensure a 10-day delivery. During the Spring Festival, the biggest difficulty encountered in modifying the negative pressure ambulance was material procurement. Since the first day of the year, we have been calling our core suppliers and asking them to resume production.
Because of the rising trend of the epidemic, many suppliers' employees are not local, but from all over the country, and we asked them to call their employees who are not in Wuhan to come to work.
The MAXUS?V80 ambulance involves dozens of suppliers, and there are about 10 more important suppliers, and we communicated and implemented them one by one.
The suppliers were very supportive during this extraordinary period, and basically agreed to follow the delivery schedule, and then they asked their employees to return to work according to their own circumstances. Every day after that, we continued to follow up on the progress of things to see if the delivery time promised by the suppliers could actually be realized.
On the first day of the month, the company formulated a response plan for the emergency. On the second day of the month, the company resumed production. As of Jan. 28, all employees were basically in place, except for those who were in Wuhan or around Wuhan who couldn't come back because of the quarantine.
There were many touching stories during this period. Our production section chief Wang Guogui, after receiving a call from the company on New Year's Eve, did not hesitate to mobilize employees who had already returned home to return to work. He came to the company early in the morning of the first day, to understand the staff to the post situation, from morning to night in the production line, timely coordination to solve the problem, to ensure that the production as efficient as possible.
Yu Kai, the engineer in charge of quality assurance. Wuxi Shenlian started 200 military ambulance orders a year ago, the quality standard requirements are extremely strict, during which he was busy until midnight almost every day, to deal with on-site problems, even if he was sick, he also stayed at his post. It was hard for him to have a rare Spring Festival vacation, but after receiving the urgent production notice, he responded to the call at the first time and rushed to the company for strict quality control.
There is also a machine tool operator Yu Ping, is a spare parts section of the machining plate of the humerus. There are a lot of homemade parts in the special-purpose vehicle conversion, and the homemade parts of the ambulance are even more complicated, so if you don't have enough experience, it's easy to make mistakes and affect the production cycle. After receiving the notice, Yu Ping returned to his post at the first time and urgently put into the production of the front parts of the ambulance.
After the factory resumed production in an emergency, the company attached great importance to employee health and safety. Every day into the factory and workshop employees have to measure the body temperature, if found abnormal, immediately to the hospital for examination. In the past two days, no abnormalities were found.
Diet, because of the fear of employees eating out is not safe, in order to cooperate with the production of Wuxi Shenlian plant, the canteen staff from the first day of the year to return to work one after another, and to ensure that the three meals supplied. After eating, the staff will go directly home to rest, to a certain extent, to reduce the risk of infection outside.
In addition, the company issues three masks to employees every day and replaces them once every four hours. In order to prevent secondary pollution caused by discarded masks, the company in the workshop and office building designated areas to set up masks temporary waste points, requiring each employee to use the mask simple broken uniform waste to the designated location. And then by the cleaning staff centralized recycling, the use of disinfectant on the waste masks to kill bacteria, and with boiling water, and then dispose of it, and then the government of Wuxi Huishan Development Zone, Wuxi, to arrange for the municipal sanitation daily collection, unified treatment.
As one of the few companies in the industry specializing in the production of modified vehicles, SAIC Datsun Wuxi Shenlian originally undertook a variety of modified vehicle model production tasks. The 60 negative-pressure ambulances modified this time are based on an ordinary ambulance with an additional set of negative-pressure devices.
The role of this negative pressure device is to control the direction of air flow in the vehicle, so that the air in the medical cabin to form a directional flow. This allows the medical cabin to form a low-pressure difference in the atmosphere relative to the outside environment.
That is to say, the patient's exhaled air is sucked into the device through the suction terminal, and then discharged to the outside of the car after disinfection, so as to effectively prevent the transmission of pollution, and at the same time to ensure that the gas with infectious poisons will not be circulated in the car, thus avoiding secondary pollution.
Also, therefore, the entire production of negative pressure ambulance process, the most central and most critical place is the negative pressure equipment.
In order to ensure that the key equipment is in place, the company's leaders, including Mr. Lan Qingsong (Vice President of SAIC Group and Chairman of SAIC Datsun), Mr. Wang Rui, Mr. Xu Hongyi, and leaders from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology have helped us to implement the suppliers.
Originally, the suppliers that supplied us were one in Suzhou and one in Jiangxi, but in order to speed up the time, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) helped us to contact a supplier in Beijing, which has a larger production capacity and a relatively faster delivery cycle.
When they docked with them, the other side said the fastest would be around February 25th. After the leadership of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology again coordinated to let them resume production as soon as possible, the supply time to February 3rd.
Considering the current situation, the transportation company from Beijing to Wuxi may encounter some problems, we decided to send our own car to the supplier to pick up the goods directly. The car will be driven directly to the production plant first, and then shipped back immediately after the goods are successfully delivered.
In order to ensure the delivery of the car on February 5, we took all possible measures. At the time of the crisis, despite the supplier's active cooperation, time was indeed tight, and with the vehicle modifications and the various problems we encountered ourselves, it didn't go particularly well.
Except for the core equipment supply problem, there is nothing special about the other materials of the negative pressure ambulance. However, from a conversion point of view, the workload for conversion has been greater than normal because the 60 vehicles have been coordinated from other orders. We're working on a solution in this regard to ensure a smooth completion according to the schedule.
Compared with the normal ambulance, the negative pressure ambulance, if there is a higher requirement, is an additional isolation chamber. The isolation chamber is mainly suitable for the isolation and transportation of suspected or confirmed respiratory infectious patients in a toxic gas environment.
The isolation cabin adopts the principle of positive and negative pressure. Positive pressure principle can effectively prevent external toxic gases from entering the cabin, and negative pressure principle can prevent the leakage of contaminated air inside the cabin. The high efficiency filter canister makes the external toxic gas or internal polluted gas to be filtered efficiently to ensure that the filtered gas is clean. The fan is powered by lithium batteries and can be used continuously for not less than 5 hours.
This set of devices is not the negative pressure ambulance standard, if from the security point of view, the addition of isolation chamber effect is better. This time 60 negative pressure ambulances are required to configure the isolation chamber, the company is also in the urgent procurement, suppliers are committed to on-time delivery.
These modified negative-pressure ambulances will be assigned to support Wuhan in time after completion.
These vehicles are not only our responsibility to fulfill the government's directive, but also our emotion to the key areas of epidemic prevention.
We are sure to complete the task on time.
