Difference between PACS and RIS?

RIS: stands for Radiography Information System.

PACS: stands for Picture Archive and Communication System.

The basic idea is that in order for PACS to work, a good RIS must drive the entire process.

PACS and RIS are two systems with completely different focuses: PACS is used to control the flow of image data within the radiology department, and RIS is used to control the day-to-day operations of the radiology department.

Application areas:

The main functions and applications of RIS include patient examination booking, imaging equipment management and booking, medical advice input and management, patient and equipment booking management, diagnostic imaging report generation and management, pricing, and charging.

PACS system applied in the hospital imaging department system, the main task is the daily generation of a variety of medical images (including nuclear magnetic, CT, ultrasound, various X-ray machines, a variety of infrared instrument, microscope and other equipment to produce images) through a variety of interfaces (analog, DICOM, network) in a digital way to save a large number of when the need for a certain authorization to be able to quickly call back to use, and at the same time to increase the number of patients and equipment. When needed, under certain authorization, it can be quickly recalled for use, and at the same time, some auxiliary diagnostic management functions are added. It plays an important role in the transmission of data between various imaging devices and the organization of stored data.

The significance of PACS is not only in digitization, but more importantly:

1. unclogging the workflow to improve equipment and efficiency and increase revenue

2. eliminating film-related costs to reduce costs

3. reducing the chances of reshooting

4. updating technology to improve competitiveness

5. improving service quality

6. Quality of service

6. Attract quality personnel

7. Sound automated management of patient data
