What are the three major industries

Nowadays, countries around the world usually divide various industries into three main categories: primary industry, secondary industry and tertiary industry.

The primary industry is the industry that provides the means of production, including planting, forestry, animal husbandry, aquaculture and other production sectors that directly target natural objects, some of which are industries but are not processing industries, such as the mining industry, which directly provides minerals but does not process them, so the mining industry is part of the primary industry. The secondary sector is the processing industry, which utilizes basic means of production for processing and selling. The tertiary sector, also known as the service sector, refers to industries other than the primary and secondary sectors. The tertiary industry has a wide range of industries. It includes transportation, communication, commerce, catering, finance and insurance, administration, household services and other non-material production sectors. The division of industries is not entirely consistent across countries. The usual tertiary industry is the classification used by the United Nations: the primary industry includes agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery; the secondary industry includes manufacturing, extractive industry, construction and public **** works, water and sewage, gas, sanitation sector; the tertiary industry includes commerce, finance, insurance, real estate, transportation, communications, services and other non-material production sectors.

In the post-war period, with the socio-economic and scientific progress, the proportion of output value and employed persons in each sector of the national economy has been changing constantly. The trend of change is as follows: at first, the proportion of the primary industry was declining, the proportion of the secondary industry was rising, and the proportion of the tertiary industry was also rising; subsequently, the proportion of the material production sectors, including the primary and secondary industries, declined to varying degrees, and the proportion of the tertiary industry continued to rise. This trend of change is more prominent in developed countries. So far, the proportion of output value and employed population of tertiary industry in developed countries is generally above 50%, becoming the largest and fastest-growing industry. On the other hand, in developing countries, except for the new industrialized countries and regions, generally speaking, the level of their industrial structure is relatively backward, and the process of transformation is not fast. But from the trend of change, developed countries and developing countries are basically the same.

The relationship between the three major industries - interdependence, mutual constraints:

① Primary industry for the secondary and tertiary industries to lay the foundation;

② Primary and secondary industries for the tertiary industry to create the conditions;

3 tertiary industry development to promote the progress of the primary and secondary industries;

4 The secondary and tertiary industries have a driving effect on the primary industry.
