Maybe he is using an "old cat" that can't run.

The modem indicator light of ADSL is the most important basis for judging the fault.

First of all, you should be familiar with the precautions of using Modem:

ADSL modems usually use external power supply with plastic shell structure. There are three points to note when using:

One: ADSL modem needs to be placed in a ventilated and heat-dissipating place. The plastic shell structure of Modem is not conducive to heat dissipation. Therefore, in order to ensure the long-term stable operation of ADSL modem, it should be placed in a ventilated place. There should be no covering on the modem and the vertical modem should not be placed horizontally.

Two: ADSL modem is a kind of high-speed data communication equipment, which is easily interfered by external electromagnetic waves, leading to internet failure and so on. Therefore, it is necessary to avoid putting it together with CRT monitors, televisions and mobile phones, avoiding being close to the power strip and away from high-power electrical equipment such as refrigerators and air conditioners.

Third, external power supply is prone to loose and poor connection, and instantaneous power failure will also lead to ADSL modem resynchronization. Therefore, avoid plugging the ADSL modem power supply into the inferior socket, and put the socket in an easy-to-touch place.

6. Because many of them are brought from other places (such as Putian series of Chongqing Telecom), I don't have detailed information at hand, so I won't list them here. Anyway, the most basic modem is three lights: power supply (PWR) and telephone line (LINK). Synchronization) and network lines (LAN. Lan). The basic judgment is based on these three indicators.

After understanding our equipment, we should learn simple troubleshooting methods. Common network faults and solutions are as follows:

A. Unable to access the Internet ("Error 678" or "E0040" is prompted when dialing)

1. First, look at the status of the modem power light: it is not on. Would you please turn on the power first? Or change the socket. See it flashing? ! Then you must smell burning, too, right?

2. Then look at the status of the LAN light: it is not on. The network card must have failed to find the modem. Check whether the network cable is loose; Blinking may be due to poor contact. Check whether there is an oxide layer on the cable connector (also called "crystal head") (if the metal contact part has no metallic luster, there is an oxide layer) and scrape it off with a knife/toothpick, or whether the interface metal reed is deformed. You can put the paper under the reed or pick it up with something else.

3. Finally, check the link indicator status of the modem.

If the link light doesn't work, we need to check whether the mobile phone is broken. If there is no sound on the mobile phone, it is a telephone line problem. After inspection, there is nothing wrong with the indoor telephone line. You need to call 10000 immediately to report the telephone line failure. If the phone is noisy, unplug the extension and try again. No, the telephone line goes directly into the modem without going through the voice filtering separator: OK, go to the computer city and buy a low-impedance voice filtering separator to wear; Still no good, call 10000 to report the telephone line failure. If the link is flashing, it may be that the telephone line is in poor contact. The inspection method is the same as the flashing LAN light, but the circuit is different.

4. The above indicators are all normal, and further tests are needed: first, make clear the IP address corresponding to your modem model and what operating system it is, then click Run in the start menu, enter "cmd" (the input "command" of WIN 98/ME) and press enter, open a DOS window, enter "ping your modem's IP" and press enter.

Take my D-LINK as an example: "Reply from192.168.1:bytes = 32 time = 9mttl = 251"Everything is fine. If you can't get online, it's a problem with the network protocol or the computer itself, so you need to reinstall the TCP/IP protocol or dial.

The "Request Timeout" connection timed out, and the modem needs to be turned off for 5 minutes before being turned on. If it doesn't work, press the "Reset" button of the modem for 3 seconds, and then turn it on again. It's done.

Host not connected cannot find the host. There may be a problem with the network card/slot or modem. Change the PCI slot of the network card (as far away from the graphics card slot as possible) or the network card. If not, change the modem.

If all the above attempts fail, then it is not a fault that we can handle ourselves. Remember to call 10000 to report the network failure in time.

B frequently dropped calls

1. First check whether the modem telephone line and network cable interface are loose, and then pick up the receiver to listen for noise. If there is a line problem, please report it to 10000.

2. See if there is an extension on the phone. If so, please delete it and try again. Or a direct minimization system (i.e., the telephone line does not pass through the voice filtering separator and the telephone).

3. Enter the modem configuration interface (see above for the IP, user name and password of the modem) and check the values of ATTN (line attenuation) and SNR (noise tolerance). Generally speaking, the recipient

4. Anti-virus (Kaspersky or Norton is recommended).

5. Touch whether the modem is too hot (the normal working temperature of the modem should be lower than 60 degrees) or whether there is a mobile phone next to the modem.

By the way, Chengdu Telecom is now engaged in free speed-up activities. Let's check whether their telephone lines are old or too far and too long. If so, it is best not to accelerate. Not all free lunches are so delicious.

C. Low network speed

1. Antivirus, 2. Update your virus database frequently.

3. Go to the configuration interface of your modem (see the IP, user name and password of the modem above) to check the uplink and downlink rates. Because ADSL is an asymmetric transmission mode between uplink and downlink, you only need to look at the downlink speed. Since TCP/IP protocol and other auxiliary protocols occupy a certain amount of bandwidth, their value may be more than your bandwidth. As long as the deviation is within one place, there is no problem.

4.4. The DNS(6 1. 139.2.69) delay of Pingtong Telecom should be below 30ms. (That's the final average = * * milliseconds)

5. Don't upload while downloading, or turn on the camera to play games. It is best not to choose Netcom's servers to download things or play games (Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Henan, Shandong, Shanxi, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Inner Mongolia).

6. If it really doesn't work, call 10000. If you are lucky, you can meet expert guidance.

D. unable to browse

Unable to browse means that you can dial normally, but you can't open the webpage.

1. Anti-virus, upgrade virus database.

2. See if QQ can be used normally (QQ only needs IP without domain name) or whether "61.139.81.1"can be turned on. If QQ can be used normally, you can open 6 1. 1.65438+.

3. Click "Run" in the "Start" menu, enter "cmd" (the input command of win 98/me), press "Enter" to open a DOS window, and enter "ipconfig/all" [98/me] as the input "winipcfg", and a dialog box will appear. Check whether the last four lines of values "IP address, subnet mask and default gateway DNS server" are missing. If so, it is likely that your network card is not correctly assigned to the IP of DNS. Take it easy. Then continue to enter "ipconfig/release", and see that the above four items all show "0.0.0.0", and finally "ipconfig/renew", and a new IP appears. It's done. For 98/me, just click "Publish All" and then "Update All" in the dialog box.

If IE is broken, it will be more troublesome. In addition to repairing the registry, you only need to repair IE or reinstall the system. First, try a different browser, such as MSN or the older "Oriental Netscape". MSN or "Oriental Netscape" is definitely slower than IE, but if you can use these browsers to open web pages, it will unfortunately be confirmed (Tencent TT is also a browser, but it is recommended not to use this test because it is based on IE). Bite your teeth. If you can't fix it, fix it. Do not wait any longer.

The rice is finished.
