Plasma Display Panel (abbreviated as PDP) is a new generation of display devices using the plasma flat screen technology that has been developing at a high speed in recent years. 1 plasma display principle of operation
Plasma display is a display device using gas discharge, this screen uses a plasma tube as a light-emitting element. A large number of plasma tubes are arranged to form the screen. Each plasma corresponds to a small chamber filled with neon and xenon gas. When a high voltage is applied between the electrodes of the plasma tubes, the gas in the plasma tube chamber sealed between the two layers of glass generates ultraviolet light, which excites the red, green, and blue phosphors on the flat panel display to emit visible light. Each ion tube acts as a pixel, and the combination of light and dark and color variations from these pixels produces images in various shades of gray and colors, similar to displaying light emitted by a tube. Plasma technology differs significantly from other display methods and is one step ahead in terms of structure and composition. Its working mechanism is similar to that of ordinary fluorescent lamps, and the three-layer structure of a plasma display is shown in Figure 1. It generally consists of three layers of glass panels. Inside the first layer is coated with conductive material vertically, the middle layer is the bulb array, and the third layer is coated with a horizontal strip of conductive material on the surface. 2 Characteristics of PDP plasma displays

3 The development of plasma displays

4 The development of plasma display in China
China's plasma color TV industry is just starting, but through the introduction, digestion and absorption, the development of these years is very rapid. Rainbow Group Company and Xi'an Jiaotong University have developed 40-inch color PDP products with independent and intellectual property rights in cooperation with the National Institute of Gas Discharge Devices in Russe, and Rainbow Group Company has built a 40-inch color PDP test line in Beijing, and plans to carry out trial production in 2002.TCL, Hisense and Skyworth have launched their own PDP products successively and Skyworth has newly launched HD plasma color TV as well as plasma color TVs with high quality. Hisense and Beijing Gome, Dazhong and other large merchants signed a 300 million yuan 42-hour digital plasma TV order letter of intent. TCL plans to realize all the plasma TV module independent development and production by 2004, through joint ventures with foreign investors, cooperation and other ways to realize the joint development and production of displays. It plans to invest RMB 300-500 million in the development and production of plasma TVs by 2005, build at least three production lines, and realize an annual output of 300,000 sets of complete sets and 300,000 sets of parts.
