The former site of Nanjing Presidential Palace

The construction of the Presidential Palace building started on June 1 of the first year of the Republic of China (R.O.C.) and was completed in March of the eighth year of the R.O.C.. The whole building is modeled after the small buildings at the entrance of the main gate, one closely connected to the other, with a strict structure, symmetrical shape and fine design. Towering columns, elegant carvings, deep corridors and delicate arches can be seen everywhere in the Presidential Palace, fully demonstrating the baroque architectural features of the European Renaissance. At the end of World War II, the place was bombed and severely damaged. After Taiwan was restored in R.O.C. 34, it was rebuilt the following year. At that time, it was renamed Jie Shou Pavilion to celebrate the sixth birthday of Chiang Kung. After the central government moved the capital to Taiwan in R.O.C. 38, this pavilion was used as the presidential palace, and has been in use ever since.
