Health and Safety in Blood Stations Quality Management Code

8.1 Develop and implement a safety and hygiene management system that includes, at a minimum, organizational and employee responsibilities to ensure workplace safety and hygiene.

8.2 Have a person responsible for safety and health who is directly accountable to the legal representative. Adequate and effective safety and health facilities are in place to ensure the safety and health of personnel and the workplace. Provide safety and health training to all employees. Employees are responsible for the safety and hygiene of their work area.

8.3 Establish and implement procedures for prevention and control of occupational exposure, including prevention and treatment of occupational exposure, registration, monitoring and reporting of occupational exposure.

8.4 Establish employee health records and test employees once a year for blood-borne pathogen infections. Employees who are negative for hepatitis B virus surface antibody should be vaccinated against hepatitis B virus.

8.5 Eating, drinking, smoking and wearing jewelry that affects safety and hygiene are not allowed in the operation area. There should be protective measures and relevant safety signs appropriate to the workplace and the nature of the work.

8.6 Formulate disinfection and cleaning procedures, stipulate the areas, equipment and items to be disinfected and cleaned, as well as their disinfection and cleaning methods and frequency, and keep the work area hygienic and clean.

8.7 Take effective measures to protect blood donors and employees; avoid contamination of blood, blood specimens, and the environment during blood collection, testing, preparation, storage, packaging and transportation.

8.8 Relevant regulations on medical waste management should be implemented to collect and dispose of medical waste.

8.9 Relevant regulations should be implemented to develop appropriate procedures for electrical safety, chemical, radiological, use of hazardous materials, etc., and fire prevention to ensure the safety of blood donors, staff, environment and equipment. Drills simulating relevant emergencies should be conducted on a regular basis.
