Healthcare System in France Healthcare services in France are mainly undertaken by hospitals and are based on the principle of combining prevention, medical treatment and rehabilitation. In France, medical institutions mainly include public hospitals and private hospitals, private hospitals are more in number than public hospitals, but public hospitals still play a leading role in the provision of medical services in the country. At present, there are 1,058 public hospitals in France with 318,000 beds, most of which are general hospitals with complete departments and advanced equipment. In addition, France has private hospitals (clinics) 3045 (Institute), 173,000 beds, of which 792 non-profit hospitals (clinics), 65,834 beds; for-profit hospitals (clinics) 2,353, 107,475 beds, many of which are specialized clinics, their equipment, conditions are generally simpler, varying in size.
Public hospitals are mainly funded by the Sickness Social Insurance Fund and government financial subsidies. There are various types of public hospitals in the country, the main ones being:
1. University Hospital Center. There are 29 of them, with more than 40,000 beds. They are generally equipped with modern medical equipment and advanced treatments, and mainly treat a variety of difficult and serious diseases.

Private hospitals are also responsible for a large number of health care services, one-third of the country's health care services are provided by these private medical institutions to provide and complete. In particular, obstetrics and gynecology and general surgery are provided by these private hospitals, which play an important role in supporting community health services.
Medical insurance system The universal national medical insurance system now in place in France was established under the Social Security Law enacted in 1956. The current coverage is about 99.2% of the population.
The insurance system is financed by deducting a certain amount of health insurance premiums from each person's monthly income, generally 16% of salary income, with the employer contributing 36%, which is managed by the social security department. In the event of illness, major illnesses are fully covered; for minor illnesses, the individual pays 15 per cent, and the social insurance department pays 85 per cent.
