Yushu Earthquake Information

On April 14, an orphanage in Jiegu Township, Yushu Prefecture, collapsed, crushing six orphans and their teacher under the rubble. Hong Kong volunteer Wong Fuk-wing, who had survived the quake, rushed into the rubble twice to rescue them, but was caught in the second collapse caused by an aftershock and died on the spot.

This is the first volunteer to die in the Yushu disaster area. Huang Furong, an ordinary truck driver, came silently and died heroically, allowing us to witness once again the valuable moral strength and spiritual qualities of Chinese volunteers. When his life came to an abrupt end in the ruins, when his story spread in the reporter's pen, we remembered an ordinary and extraordinary life.

Life and death, this is an eternal theme of life. In the face of disaster, such questions really rush into the lives of ordinary people. These days, the Yushu earthquake in the emergence of that a life and death story, it is the ordinary people on the value of life and the meaning of the answer. Huang Furong's choice of life and death, once again, let us realize the sublime and greatness contained in these answers - for the sake of other people's lives, at the expense of their own death. He could have chosen life after escaping the calamity, but he rushed to the edge of death without any hesitation. In the moment when the rubble buried him, he burned out the last light of life, illuminating the way for others to escape the shadow of death.

Huang Furong died, but behind him stand countless volunteers like him, rich in love and courage. Whenever danger strikes, they always come to the side of those in trouble. When people need to stand, they give them a hand; when people are thirsty and hungry, they send food and water; when people bleed, they bandage their wounds. ...... Their busy figures appeared at the scene of the Wenchuan earthquake, in the flooded villages, and in the drought-stricken land in Southwest China ... ...They always hold a warm heart, treating others' sufferings as their own, and treating others' loved ones as their own. Dedication, friendship, mutual help and progress are their motto. Wherever they go, they bring warmth to wherever they go.

Helping others and contributing to society is the same characterization of volunteers. Volunteer service, is the embodiment of personal love, but also social responsibility. When the volunteers reach out the hand of friendship, they pass is the warmth, is caring, but also the concept and responsibility. All for one, all for me. This is a sign of a society's maturity and a necessary element for a society to realize harmony. In this sense, Huang Furong's sacrifice not only highlights the value of an individual's life, but also contains a more profound social significance.

Huang Furong has gone, but left the spirit of volunteerism to the community. It is an indestructible lamp that still illuminates our hearts. (Guangming Daily Zhong Yiwei)
