List of Fees for Studying in Japan

The cost of studying in Japan is mainly divided into two parts - tuition + living expenses!

1. Tuition fees

The tuition fees of Japanese universities mainly include: ① tuition fees, ② facility and equipment fees, ③ laboratory fees, ④ textbooks? Teaching material fees, etc. In addition to this, there is an entrance fee for the first year of enrollment and an examination fee for the first year of enrollment.

The tuition fee for the first year is around 820,000 yen for national universities, 930,000 yen for public universities, and 1.1 million yen to 1.64 million yen for private universities, depending on the program of study (except for medicine and dentistry).

2. Living expenses

Accommodation expenses

The living expenses required vary depending on the region. Japanese schools usually require a half-yearly accommodation fee to be paid in advance, which is usually around 15,000 to 20,000 RMB for half a year.

Some schools can pay the accommodation fee once every three months, and in the Osaka area it can be calculated on the basis of 2,000 to 4,000 RMB per month (ranging from 1 room to 3 rooms) for a dormitory.

In addition to this, dormitory facilities in Japanese schools are relatively comprehensive, with many schools including bedding and other items in their dormitory fees, and the few that don't will help students purchase them separately. A full set of fine bedding is usually charged on behalf of 600 to 800 yuan.

Meals

Students traveling to Japan are advised to bring about 20,000 yuan (300,000 yen) with them. The cost of meals in Japan is still relatively high. For example, a bowl of ramen costs 400 to 600 yen, and Yoshinoya's beef rice is 380 yen a bowl.

In contrast, the cost of cooking your own meals is very low, and there is no problem keeping a meal between 200 yen and 350 yen. So normally, in Japan, students spend around 1500 to 1300 RMB per month on food.

3. Medical insurance

When you first arrive in Japan, you will need to pay about 600 to 1,200 yuan (8,000 to 20,000 yen a year) for national insurance. This is mandatory and provides medical insurance for students.

4. Daily Expenses

The cost of a telephone call in Japan is usually between 5,000 and 8,000 yen per month. Including entertainment and transportation costs, daily expenses are around 20,000 RMB a year.

In summary the cost of studying in Japan for one year is about 100,000 to 150,000 yuan. Although the consumption in Japan is relatively high compared with that in China, Japan allows international students to work part-time, and many of them will work part-time to relieve the burden of their parents after their busy studies.
