How can the Vietnamese Internet be so good?

Let me talk about the Internet speed! All I can tell you is that it’s pretty fast.

The Vietnam Internet Information Center (VNNIC - Ministry of Information and Communications) said that 3 months after the official implementation of the Internet access quality measurement system located at the National Internet Exchange (VNIX), statistics have reached close to 30,000 users . The results show that the quality of Internet access in Vietnam basically meets the standards, and some parameters are higher than the data published by international systems.

Specifically, in the first quarter of 2020, the VNNIC Speedtest system collected nearly 30,000 user samples from 69 networks (identified by independent ASN network numbers), most of which came from large Networks such as Viettel, VNPT, FPT, Mobifone and CMC. Aggregated data shows that Vietnam’s internet connection quality is up to par. Some statistics are higher than those released by international systems at the same time. The average download speed of the broadband network reached 61.69 Mbps, which is 45% higher than the measurement results published by foreign systems. For mobile networks, the average download rate was 39.44 MBps, also an 18.7% improvement.

Among the top three operators in FTTH service market share, VNPT ranks first with the best download/upload speed , followed by Viettel and FPT. CMCTelecom's download/upload results were also high (84.27Mbps/74.43Mbps). Statistics on deeper quality parameters (Ping, Jitter – special parameters that affect high-quality services such as voice and video) show that Vietnam’s Internet connections are up to standard.

Some operators have less than ideal goals at certain times, which may affect the quality of voice and video streaming services used on the Internet, manifesting as distortion, image cracking, especially when multiple device users Enjoy one channel at the same time... For mobile Internet connections, Viettel has the highest average download/upload speeds (41.45Mbps/32.70Mbps), followed by Vinaphone and Mobifone. In general, the quality of Internet access via mobile devices is lower than that of broadband services (about 1.5 times). In addition to statistics about the quality of users' Internet access, the system also records many other statistics, such as the percentage of PCs/smart devices/unknown terminals used at 52%, 31% and 17%. For operating systems, Windows is still the most popular operating system with more than 56%; followed by Android at about 26%, iOS (iPhone/iPad) at 11.6%, and OSx (Macbook) at 4.9%.

In terms of browsers, Chrome ranks first with 52%, Android Webkit browser 25.44%, Safari 14.71%, Edge (Microsoft) only 1.24%, ...passed users on the VNNICSpeedtest system The publication of measurement results and evaluation of Internet access quality initially brought a multidimensional statistical map of the Vietnamese Internet. This is an efficient source of reference data that serves users, businesses and state management agencies to monitor, improve the quality of Internet access and build comprehensive reports on the Internet in Vietnam.

In the near future, VNNIC will continue to work hard to develop and improve the VNNIC Speedtest system and publish regular data to better serve the Internet community to achieve the same goal of ensuring quality and operation. The Vietnamese internet is safe and modern. VNNIC also recommends that enterprises invest in upgrading broadband infrastructure to meet the higher needs of users and ensure the quality of services such as ultra-high definition video (4K), online training, medical examinations and treatments. At the same time, organizations and businesses need to strengthen their connections to the National Internet Exchange (VNIX) to ensure that the Internet is developed in a safe and stable manner, especially during periods of high demand.
