In 2007, the FM radio transmitter on Yongxing Island in Xisha was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission for the project, and in April 2011, it officially started broadcasting. The broadcasting signal covers a radius of 30 kilometers of Yongxing Island, which greatly enriches the spiritual and cultural life of the military, police and people stationed on the island, and also provides timely meteorological information services for fishermen operating in Xisha waters.

At the same time, the livelihood projects also step by step in Xisha Yongxing Island to leave a mark - Xisha Yongxing Island sewage treatment project and a number of other key provincial livelihood projects, is carrying out preparatory work.

In early 2012, the new Sansha City People's Hospital project was officially started at the original site, with a construction area of 1992.53 square meters. The hospital is equipped with pediatrics, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, orofacial stomatology, nursing office and other departments, with 30 beds.

In addition, in order to solve the problem of "decompression sickness" and other diseases caused by fishermen's deep-sea production and operation, the working committee and office invested more than 200,000 yuan to purchase a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, which was put into use in 2006. By the end of 2011, many fishermen operating in Xisha waters and suffering from "decompression sickness" had received treatment.

With the completion of the demarcation of the Gulf of Tonkin, fishermen from Guangdong, Hong Kong and other coastal provinces and regions have switched to the South China Sea. In order to provide logistical support for fishermen producing and operating in the South China Sea, the Work Committee and the Office fought for 120 million yuan of state bond funds to build a fishery supply base on Yongxing Island in Xisha. The first phase of the project has been completed.

European and American defense newspapers have even speculated that China has a new underground nuclear submarine base on Yongxing Island as well as a mega-signal intelligence listening station in preparation.

In 2008, Yongxing Island's airport underwent large-scale renovation and lengthening, and warplanes taking off from the airport can cover the entire South China Sea; in addition, the airport has a radar navigation station and four large fuel tanks, and is intended to serve as a "forward base for refueling warplanes".

In terms of ship deployment, the naval base has been upgraded to berth large-tonnage guided-missile destroyers and frigates, and the facilities on the island are sufficient to support the daily lives of more than 1,000 people.

In February 2016, the PLA deployed Red Flag-9 surface-to-air missiles on Yongxing Island.

Britain's Jane's Defense Weekly reported on March 23 that recent satellite photos show China deploying Hawk-62 long-range anti-ship missiles on Yongxing Island in the Xisha Islands.
