What is ecological assessment?

Ecological assessment is the evaluation of the quality of each ecosystem in a region, especially the ecosystem itself, which plays a major role. Utilizing the principles of ecology and the methodology of system theory, the systematic evaluation of many important functions of natural ecosystems can be broadly understood as the evaluation of the whole system functions performed by the subsystems in the composite ecosystems (i.e., the natural or environmental subsystems, social subsystems, and economic subsystems).
