It is a large-scale tertiary hospital with the highest technical level of orthopaedic specialty in the city, with "large specialty, strong comprehensive" as its development mode. The hospital now has 1300 open beds, with 7 trauma surgery, 5 hand surgery, 3 spine surgery, 3 arthropathy, 2 foot and ankle surgery, 2 pediatric orthopedics, geriatric orthopedics, ICU, rehabilitation, pain, comprehensive surgery, neurology, cardiovascular medicine, ophthalmology, stomatology, orthopedic surgery, and other 36 clinical departments and a branch of the hospital area.
The founder of the orthopedic department of the hospital is Mr. Chen Min, one of the early pioneers of orthopedics in China, a famous specialist in western orthopedics and a member of the Royal Society of Medicine of the United Kingdom. Mr. Chen Min graduated from Peking Union Medical College in 1941, is the first technical vice president of the second hospital in Tangshan City, under the supervision of one of the founders of Chinese orthopedics (orthopedic surgery) Meng Jimao, and China's famous urology expert Wu Jiping (Chinese Academy of Sciences, senior academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the former vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the President of the Chinese Medical Association) for the same classmates and close friends, for the orthopedic cause of the city of Tangshan has made excellent contributions, and is the first hospital in Tangshan City orthopedic career. Mr. Chen Min has made outstanding contributions to the cause of orthopaedics in Tangshan and is one of the main founders of orthopaedics in Tangshan. Mr. Chen Min carried out lumbar intervertebral disc removal surgery as early as in the 1950s, limb reimplantation and artificial hip replacement surgery in the 1960s, and successfully rescued the first case of burns with an area of 93% in China. 1951, Mr. Chen Min participated in the fight against the U.S. and North Korea and served as the deputy commander of the second brigade of the International Medical Defense Service, and rescued a large number of war-wounded casualties on the battlefields of the fight against the U.S. and North Korea. Mr. Chen Min has served as a deputy to the Third National People's Congress, a member of the Tangshan City Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, a vice chairman of the Tangshan City Committee of the Democratic League of China, and a chairman of the Tangshan Branch of the Chinese Medical Association.
