Infrared Data Communication Technology
What is IRDA?
IRDA stands for Infrared Data Association, and a series of infrared data communication standards developed by IRDA form the basis of infrared data communication technology. Infrared communication technology is a point-to-point data transfer protocol that is an alternative to the traditional cable connection between devices. Its communication distance is generally between 0 and 1 meter, the transmission rate can be as fast as 16Mbps, the communication medium for the wavelength of about 900 nanometers of near infrared.
Features of infrared communication technology
■It is a widely used wireless connection technology in the world, supported by many hardware and software platforms;
■Through the data electrical pulse and infrared light pulse conversion between the realization of the wireless data sending and receiving.
■Mainly used to replace the point-to-point cable connection;
■The new communication standard is compatible with the earlier communication standard;
■Small angle (within 30 degrees cone angle), short distance, point-to-point straight-line data transmission, strong confidentiality;
■Transmission rate is higher, at present, the 4M rate of the FIR technology has been widely used, the 16M rate of the VFIR technology has been released. VFIR technology has been released.
The use of infrared data communication technology
Infrared communication technology is often used in the following devices:
■Laptop, desktop and handheld computers;
■Printers, keyboards and mice, and other computer peripherals;
■Telephones, cellular telephones, pagers;
■Digital cameras, calculators, game consoles, set-top boxes, watches;
■Industrial and medical equipment;
■Network access devices such as modems.
Manufacturer and consumer acceptance
Infrared communication technology has been supported and adopted by many hardware and software manufacturers worldwide, with mainstream software and hardware platforms now offering support for it. Infrared technology has been widely used in mobile computing and mobile communication devices, the huge installed base makes infrared wireless communication technology has a huge user group.
Implantation cost
Since most system-on-chips have infrared communication control circuits, implanting infrared functionality into a system requires only the addition of an infrared transceiver device. This reduces the cost of implanting infrared communication significantly, and mass production can bring the cost of implantation down to less than $3.
Disadvantages
■Short communication distance, the communication process can not be moved, when the obstacle communication interruption.
■Widely used SIR standard communication rate is low (115.2kbit/s)
■Infrared communication technology is mainly aimed at replacing the cable connection for wireless data transmission, single function, poor scalability.
Introduction of Bluetooth technology
What is Bluetooth?
Bluetooth (Bluetooth) is by Toshiba, Ericsson, IBM, Intel and Nokia in May 1998 **** with the proposed close-range wireless data communication technology standards. It can realize single-point-to-multipoint wireless data and sound transmission within a 10-meter radius, with a data transmission bandwidth of up to 1 Mbps. The communication medium is an electromagnetic wave with a frequency between 2.402 GHz and 2.480 GHz.
Bluetooth communication technology features
■Bluetooth work in the global open 2.4GHz ISM (i.e., industrial, scientific, medical) band;
■Using frequency-hopping spectrum expansion technology, the frequency band is divided into a number of frequency-hopping channels (hop channel), in a connection, the radio transceiver according to a certain code sequence continuously from a channel "hop" from one channel to another in a certain code sequence;
■A Bluetooth device can establish a connection with seven other Bluetooth devices at the same time;
■Data transfer rate of up to 1Mbit/s;
■Low-power consumption, communication security is good;
■Can be over the obstacles within the effective range of the Connection, there is no special communication perspective and direction requirements;
■Support voice transmission;
■Simple and convenient networking
Bluetooth communication technology
Bluetooth technology is an emerging technology, has not yet been put into widespread use, many Bluetooth devices are still in the laboratory test phase. However, it is certain that most of the devices with infrared wireless data communication function, in the future as well as the use of Bluetooth technology to realize the wireless connection. At the same time, the network characteristics of Bluetooth technology and voice transmission technology so that it can also realize the infrared technology can not be achieved in some specific functions, such as wireless phones, multi-device networking and so on.
Manufacturers and consumer acceptance
Bluetooth technology has gained the response of more than two thousand enterprises, thus having a huge development and production capacity. Bluetooth has already possessed a high degree of popularity, and the majority of consumers are very interested in this technology.
Implantation cost
Currently on the market Bluetooth devices are still relatively rare. USB interface Bluetooth adapter, Bluetooth PC card and Bluetooth cell phone have been market-oriented products, the price is very high. This shows that the early development stage of Bluetooth implantation costs are still relatively high. However, it is estimated that the implantation cost can be under 30 dollars after batch production. In the period of mature development of Bluetooth technology, the implantation cost should be able to control within 10 dollars.
Disadvantages
Bluetooth is a technology that has not yet fully matured, and although it is described as promising, it has yet to be rigorously tested in real-world use. Bluetooth also doesn't communicate at a very high rate, which may also have an impact on its development in today's data-explosive age.
Currently, mainstream software and hardware platforms do not provide support for Bluetooth, which makes the application of Bluetooth more costly and more difficult to popularize.
The ISM band is an open band and may be subject to interference from, for example, microwave ovens, cordless phones, scientific instruments, and industrial or medical equipment.
