Guangdong Food and Drug Vocational College is approved by the People's Government of Guangdong Province, the Ministry of Education for the record of the public full-time ordinary higher vocational colleges and universities, the second batch of national modern apprenticeship pilot units, Guangdong Province, Guangdong Province, the construction of demonstrative higher vocational colleges and universities, first-class higher vocational colleges and universities in Guangdong Province, Guangdong Province, college students innovation and entrepreneurship education demonstration school.
The predecessor of the school is the Guangdong Provincial School of Traditional Chinese Medicines, which was founded on June 16, 1965, and was formally upgraded to the Guangdong Institute of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Vocational and Technical College in May 2003 for the record of the Ministry of Education; and in May 2007, the name was changed to Guangdong Food and Drug Vocational College.
In December 2018, the school passed the assessment to become a model higher vocational college in Guangdong Province; in October 2019, the school passed the Ministry of Education's project to become a unit of the "High-level Higher Vocational Schools and Specialties Construction Program with Chinese Characteristics", and passed the "Ministry of Education's Second Batch of Pilot Units of Modern Apprenticeship System" in 2019. In October 2019, the school was recognized by the Ministry of Education as a unit of "High-level High Vocational Schools and Professional Construction Program with Chinese Characteristics", and in 2019, it passed the acceptance of "The Second Batch of Pilot Units of Modern Apprenticeship System of Ministry of Education".
As of August 2020, the college has 14 second-level colleges, offering 47 higher vocational majors. The campus covers a total area of 781,139,000 square meters, with a building area of 290,000 square meters, a total value of 120,280,000 yuan for teaching and research instruments and equipment, 800,011,600 square meters of experimental and practical training space, 63 on-campus practical training bases, and 1210 off-campus internship bases.
