Months ago, MI6 lost a hard drive containing a list of all the agents lurking inside terrorist organizations all over the world. James Bond (Daniel Craig) was ordered to go after the hard drive to retrieve it so as to recoup the loss. During the robbery, Eve, an agent assisting James Bond, accidentally shoots James Bond and the criminals manage to escape, while Bond is injured and falls into the water, his fate unknown. The operation to recover the hard disk also ended in failure .
Mrs. M (Judi Dench), Bond's boss, is strongly challenged by Mallory (Ralph Fiennes), the new chairman of the Intelligence and Security Committee (ISC), and becomes the subject of a government investigation. With the help of a mysterious woman named Séverine (Bénédicte Marlowe), Bond finally captures the man behind the leak, only to discover that he is Silva, a former CIA agent who was killed while on a mission. Silva was captured by the enemy when he was on a mission, and preferred to die without revealing that he was under the orders of MI and M. But in the end, he was betrayed and abandoned by Mrs. M.
