Examples of people who are self-reliant in a difficult environment

Helen Keller (American author, educator, philanthropist, social activist; selected by Time Magazine as one of the top ten American heroes and icons of the 20th century).

Example:

She was one and a half years old when she suddenly suffered from acute cerebral congestion disease, and days of high fever made her unconscious. When she awoke, her eyes were burned blind, her ears were deafened, and her mouth would not speak.

Because of the loss of hearing, she could not correct her pronunciation, and her speech was slurred. For a disabled person, the world is dark and silent, in such a situation to learn to read, write, speak, without a strong memory, is simply impossible. But Helen Keller did not give in to fate. In order to be able to pronounce words clearly, she used a small string tied to a metal rod, held in her mouth and the other end in her hand, practicing hand-mouth, writing a word and pronouncing it. In order to keep the writing from being crooked, she also made her own wooden frame and fitted it with a pulley to practice writing.

In the process of learning and memorizing, she had only one belief: she would be able to write down what she had learned and make herself a useful person. She insisted on studying for more than 10 hours a day, and after a long period of hard study, as well as indomitable confidence, she mastered a great deal of knowledge, and was able to skillfully memorize a large number of poems and wonderful fragments of famous books.

After her studies, Helen broke through the literacy barrier, language barrier, writing barrier, and has learned five languages: English, French, German, Latin, and Greek, and published 14 books, which have been praised and complimented by all walks of life.

2. Zhang Haidi (Famous Chinese writer for the disabled, Master of Philosophy, Honorary Doctorate from York University, UK; Currently President of China Disabled Persons' Federation.)

Example:

As a child, Zhang Haidi was paraplegic due to a spinal cord hemangioma. In the face of the cruel challenge of fate, she did not get depressed and did not sink, and fought against the disease with tenacity and perseverance, taught herself college English, Japanese and German, and pursued college and master's degree programs.

?In 1983, Zhang Haidi began to engage in literary creation, she overcame her illness with tenacity and excellence, and persistently fought for literature. She has translated hundreds of thousands of words of English novels such as Seaside Clinic, Rebecca at the New School, Little Miller's Travels, Modoc - The True Story of an Elephant, and published full-length novels Dreams from a Wheelchair and Extreme Top. The collection of essays "Hong Geese Fly Fast", "Open Window to the Sky" and "The Pursuit of Life".

In 1991, after her cancer surgery, Zhang Haidi continued to fight her fate with an indomitable spirit. She began to study the postgraduate course in philosophy, and after unremitting efforts she wrote her dissertation "Disability Issues in the Perspective of Cultural Philosophy". 1993, she passed the examination of postgraduate courses in the Department of Philosophy of Jilin University, and defended her dissertation, and was awarded a master's degree. Zhang Haidi confirmed the power of life with her own courage, as she said, "Like all committed people, I regard hard inquiry itself as true happiness." Her spirit of overcoming her own obstacles opened the way for the disabled to enter the sea of knowledge.

3. Stephen William Hawking (renowned physicist from Cambridge University, England, regarded as one of the most outstanding theoretical physicists after Albert Einstein; the most important contemporary general relativist and cosmologist; known as one of the greatest living scientists, and also known as the "King of the Universe").

Example: at the age of 21, he unfortunately suffered from Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS), which causes muscle atrophy, and was therefore confined to a wheelchair, with only three fingers that could be moved, the disease had severely deformed his body, with his head tilted to the right, his shoulders lowered to the left and high to the right, his hands tightly joined in the middle, holding a palm-sized mimic keyboard, and his feet twisted inward, with his mouth almost twisted into an S-shape! Whenever he smiles a little, he immediately shows a "grin". In 1985, after a trachea-piercing operation for pneumonia, he was completely deprived of the ability to speak, and his speeches and question-and-answer sessions could only be done through a voice synthesizer. Doctors at the time predicted he would live two years at most, but he remains resilient to this day.

He was confined to a wheelchair for 50 years because he suffered from muscular dystrophy lateral sclerosis, but he became a supernova in the international physics community by overcoming his disability. He was unable to write, and even had a lisp, but he transcended the theories of relativity, quantum mechanics, and the big bang to enter the "geometric dance" of creating the universe - the no-boundary condition. Although he was so helpless in a wheelchair, his ideas enabled people to travel to the vastness of space and time, and gradually solved the mystery of the universe. His research laid the foundation for our understanding of black holes and the origin of the universe today.

4. Ludwig van Beethoven (German composer and musician, one of the representative figures of the Viennese Classical School; a master of the Classical style as well as a pioneer of the Romantic style).

Example:

Beethoven was born into a poor family in Bonn, Germany on December 17, 1770.?

The father was a tenor singer in the local bumbling court choir, and the mother was the daughter of a court chef who suffered from life's hardships. Under his father's strict training, Beethoven showed musical talent, but Beethoven was often scolded by his father. Beethoven played the harpsichord at the age of four and gained a reputation as a musical prodigy; at the age of five, he suffered from otitis media; at the age of eight, he began to perform; at the age of ten, he studied with Nieffer, one of the most renowned music educators in Prussia; at the age of eleven, he published his first work, "Variations for Piano"; and at the age of twelve, on the recommendation of Nieffer, he worked in the court orchestra of the Counts of Waldstein as an organist's assistant, which is the first time that Beethoven's "Musical Servant" was used. At the age of 13, Beethoven joined the court orchestra as organist and ancient pianist.

When he was ten years old, Beethoven began to write his first symphony, and from 1796 onwards, he already felt that his sense of hearing was getting weaker and weaker, but his love for life and the persistent pursuit of art overcame his personal suffering and despair, and his suffering became the source of his creative power, and he held on to the throat of fate. In his pain, he still tenaciously created the "Heroic Symphony"; the "Heroic Symphony" marked the turnaround of Beethoven's mental state, and also marked the beginning of the "Heroic Era" of his creation.

Beethoven's later life was still characterized by many misfortunes, illnesses and financial difficulties, but he still wrote masterpieces such as the Solemn Mass and the Ninth Symphony.

Beethoven was a great master of two centuries, linking the classical and romantic schools of music, and became the source of the romantic school of music.

Example:

Born into a family of ordinary clerks, Tai Lihua was unfortunately plunged into the world of the voiceless by a high fever when she was two years old. Tai Lihua realized the difference between herself and children of her age at an early age, and the seedling of self-improvement and vigor sprouted in her heart. At the school for the deaf, Tai Lihua excelled in both academics and character. The school was in Wuhan, a city far from her home, which enabled her to develop strong self-care skills from an early age. People only saw her leave home quietly and come back quietly, but only she knew how much hard work was involved. The opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Paralympics were all performed by Tai Lihua and others. She said, "Our biggest dream is to help more disabled people."

At the closing ceremony of the Athens Paralympics, Tai Lihua led the deaf dance team of the China Disabled People's Art Troupe to perform "Thousand Hands of Goddess of Mercy," which shook the world and showed the world the splendid Chinese culture as well as the beauty of the special art and human nature, and won glory for the Chinese nation. At the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Paralympics, the world's only professional art troupe for the disabled will once again show their heart-stopping art performance in front of the world. Tai Lihua has become the head of the China Disabled People's Art Troupe, and under her careful selection and cultivation, more young and different faces of the Thousand-Handed Goddess of Mercy have appeared.
