Pediatrics is a clinical department integrating diagnosis and treatment, teaching and scientific research, with general pediatric inpatient ward, neonatal ward, clinical pediatric outpatient and child health clinic. The Department of Pediatrics has strong technical force, there are 3 deputy chief physicians, 5 attending physicians, 4 residents, including 1 master's degree, and the rest are bachelor's degree. The general pediatrics ward has 40 beds and admitted 3206 patients in 2010. The number of beds in the neonatal ward is 10, including 5 beds in the neonatal intensive care unit. Every year **** admitted more than 360 times of newborns, of which more than 100 times/year of premature babies, more than 10 times/year of very low birth weight babies (birth weight less than 1500 grams). The department is equipped with advanced equipments, including 9 baby warming boxes, 1 far-infrared neonatal resuscitation table, 1 special respirator for newborns imported from the UK, 5 multifunctional multi-parameter neonatal monitors, 1 oximeter, 1 double-sided phototherapy box, 8 single-side phototherapy lamps, 15 micro-computerized infusion pumps, and 1 hyperbaric oxygen chamber for infants. The ward is also equipped with central air-conditioning and air sterilizer, central oxygen supply and compressed air system and central negative pressure, etc., which can provide convenient, fast and high-quality all-round services for the treatment of various children's diseases.
The Department of Pediatrics has formed a set of standardized and scientific diagnostic and treatment plans for children's various systemic diseases, especially in the diagnosis and treatment of some critical illnesses and asthma, allergic cough, pneumonia, infantile diarrhea, pediatric endocrinopathies and genetic metabolism diseases, cardiac and renal diseases, Kawasaki's disease, and abnormalities of micronutrients, etc. The department has developed its own characteristic plans. The Neonatology Department carries out a variety of neonatal routine and special services, such as the application of mechanical ventilation in neonates; the application of parenteral intravenous high nutrition in neonates; the management of preterm and ultra-immature babies, the rescue and treatment of very-low and ultra-low-birth-weight babies, the application of pulmonary surface active substances in neonatal pulmonary hyaline membrane disease, the early diagnosis of congenital heart disease in neonates, the diagnosis of and rehabilitation treatment for neonatal anoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, and so on. rehabilitation treatment, etc. The Department of Pediatrics undertakes clinical internships for undergraduate and specialized students from Guangdong and Hunan Medical Schools, and has trained a large number of young clinicians and nurses.
