Yeongnam University Medical Center was ranked 5th in the Republic of Korea in the number of choledochoscopic surgeries performed at the Gastroenterology Center with 10,000 cases, according to the results published in the "Surgical Guidelines for Medical Institutions in the Republic of Korea" in 2006.
The National Health Insurance Corporation (an agency of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Family Affairs of the Republic of Korea) selected the top 30 diseases with the highest number of surgeries based on the year 2006, and then analyzed the top 30 service providers with the highest number of surgeries according to the disease category and published the results. As a result, the number of choledochoscopic surgeries performed at the Gastroenterology Center of Yeongnam University Medical Center was selected as the 5th largest hospital in the Republic of Korea. Biliary endoscopy is a procedure in which an endoscope is inserted into the duodenum and a thin tube is inserted through the duodenal flow head at the exit of the bile duct and pancreatic duct, and contrast material is injected to investigate the morphology of the bile duct and the pancreatic duct, which is utilized in the non-surgical treatment of diseases ranging from the removal of gallstones to the cancers of the bile ducts.
The Stroke Center at Lingnan University Medical Center received an A grade for all 9 departments evaluated in the 2005 Stroke Evaluation.
The Family Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Health Insurance Review and Evaluation Institute evaluated 187 hospitals nationwide in 2005, selecting indicators such as patient status record management, early diagnosis, early treatment, and secondary prevention, to determine whether the services for stroke patients were provided at the right time, and whether appropriate treatment was provided. As a result, the Stroke Center of Yeongnam University Medical Center received an A grade out of the 9 indicators of the evaluated departments in Daegu, making it a medical center with an excellent stroke treatment system alongside major hospitals in Seoul.
