1. Set up an automatic savings program
Create a deposit-only account at your bank and regularly set aside a small amount of money from your paycheck card each month that won't affect your daily expenses.
2. Choose a high-interest online bank to incentivize saving
When you have saved a certain amount of money, you have been sticking to saving for a while, this is the time when you need to choose a high-interest bank to help you save, whether you are at work or sleeping, your money will be in the bank for you to generate more interest, which can encourage you to continue to implement the money-saving plan.
3. Make a list of unnecessary items
Jot down a list of items you don't need on your cell phone or in a notebook you carry with you, and firmly avoid purchasing them when you shop. As your list gets longer and longer, you'll realize that your life can go on as usual even without these things.
4. Give luxury items time to wait
When you really want a luxury item, don't pull out your credit card right away. Instead, wait a while, a month or more, and then flip it off your waiting list to see if you still want it. Waiting allows you to tell which items you really want to own and which ones you just want to buy on impulse, and it's easier to think about it before you buy it than to return it after you've made a regrettable purchase.
5. Freeze your credit cards (only for the spendaholics)
If you can't stop yourself from swiping your credit cards, freeze them, or you'll be saddled with debt forever.
6. Save as much money as you can
The money you save from shopping is not used to buy more items, so don't just spend it, put it in the bank.
7. Save small amounts of money for big purchases
When you need to buy a new computer or other big-ticket item, set up a related account, such as a "computer" account, and save all the small amounts of money that you normally would have saved in it until you can buy it. When you do, and you get a computer, you'll find yourself loving the computer you bought.
8. Don't underestimate change
It may seem corny to save your change and put it in a piggy bank, but it will help you get into the habit of not wasting it.
