Is picc venous catheterization an implantable medical device?

The material belongs to implantable medical devices.

The correct name of PIVC should be PICC, which refers to the insertion of central venous catheter through peripheral vein. Because the central venous catheter used for peripheral venous puncture is a medical instrument, if it is left in the human body for a long time, it may cause certain irritation to the surrounding tissues. Therefore, in general, the dressing should be changed about 24 hours after the first implantation, and then the catheter should be cleaned and maintained every 7 days.

The tip of the central venous catheter used for peripheral venous puncture is mainly located in the superior vena cava, which can directly enter the main vein around the heart through the peripheral arm vein, thus avoiding the direct contact between drugs and blood in the peripheral superficial vein. At the same time, due to the rapid blood flow in the main vein, it can promote drug dilution and prevent blood vessels from being stimulated by drugs, thus protecting upper limb veins, preventing inflammatory reactions and relieving pain.
