Now it is connected to the land by a long dike and has become an important economic development area of Zhuhai. Zhuhai Sanzao Airport, located at the southwest end of Sanzao Island, is surrounded by the sea on three sides, with good clearance, 31 kilometers away from the city. The overall planning, design and construction of the airport are in strict accordance with the international standard for first-class civil airports, and its runway, terminal building, communication and navigation system, fuel supply and safety have all reached the international advanced level. The airport has a 4,000-meter-long, 60-meter-wide runway and a 4,000-meter-long, 44-meter-wide taxiway, which can be used for landing and taking off of all types of passenger planes in the world today. The terminal building has a construction area of 92,000 square meters and is equipped with a comprehensive hall, a waiting hall and a viewing hall, where arriving and departing passengers are separated. The airport adopts the American and Swedish computer-controlled large-screen flight display and approach system, equipment control and management computer system, passenger service electronic computing system, and automatic baggage sorting system. Since the opening of the airport, it has been operating well and is constantly improving its level, striving to create a modern airport with "first-class management, first-class service, first-class operation and absolute safety". Zhuhai Sanzao Airport is the site of the China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition.
Sanzao is the location of Sanzao Science and Technology Industrial Park of Zhuhai National Hi-Tech Zone, which has formed an industrial system with pharmaceuticals, electrical appliances, medical devices and precision manufacturing as the pillar industries.
