What are the major categories of trademarks

China's current trademarks are divided into word trademarks, graphic trademarks, letter trademarks, numerical trademarks, three-dimensional logo trademarks, color combination trademarks, combination trademarks and sound trademarks, smell trademarks.

The more commonly used are word marks, graphic marks, letter marks and numeric marks.

A word mark is a mark consisting of only words, including Chinese characters and minority characters, foreign characters and Arabic numerals, as well as a combination of different words.

Graphical trademarks refer to trademarks that are composed of graphics only. It can be divided into marks, geometric trademarks and natural graphic trademarks.

Alphabetic trademarks refer to trademarks consisting of the smallest writing unit of pinyin characters or pinyin symbols, including pinyin characters, foreign alphabets such as the English alphabet, the Latin alphabet, etc.

Numerical trademarks refer to trademarks that are made up of characters in the form of numbers.

A numerical trademark is a trademark consisting of Arabic numerals, Roman numerals or Chinese capitalized numerals.

Legal basis:

Article 11 of the Trademark Law of the People's Republic of China

The following signs shall not be registered as trademarks:

(a) only the common name of the goods, graphics, model number; (b) only the quality of the goods directly indicates the quality of the goods, the main raw materials, functionality, purpose, weight, quantity and other characteristics;

( (C) other lack of distinctive features. The signs listed in the preceding paragraph through the use of distinctive features, and easy to identify, can be registered as a trademark.
