SONCAP is the abbreviation of Standards Organization of Nigeria Conformity Assessment Program, is a mandatory conformity assessment program in Nigeria. SONCAP is a new policy implemented by the Federal Government of Nigeria to check and control the export of unqualified and unsafe products to the country.SONCAP came into effect on September 1, 2005 and was given a grace period of 90 days, i.e., it was formally implemented on December 1, 2005.On March 01, 2013, the Nigerian Bureau of Standards (NBS) formally released the new SONCAP operating procedures. SONCAP operation process, each independent third party organization will directly issue SONCAP certification, by the importer with a valid SC to the Nigerian Bureau of Standards (SON) to apply for SONCAP Certificate (SC).
SONCAP Certification Mandatory Catalog:
Except for the following products, which are within the control catalog:
1) food;
2) pharmaceutical products;
3) medical products except medical equipment and machinery;
4) chemical raw materials used as production;
5) military products;
6) Products whose importation has been banned by the Nigerian government;
7) Used products other than automobiles.
Nigeria certification (SONCAP certification) has two parts:
PC certificate (product certificate) and SC certificate (clearance certificate)
The process of applying for a Nigeria-SONCAP certificate:
I. Submission of information (ISO9001/TS16949, PC application form, product specification. Product pictures);
Two, product testing, start operating the relevant documents and information;
Three, the PC certificate to the Nigerian customers, they will apply for From M Number;
Four, the customer applies for From M after the From M, to the manufacturer From M Number, waiting for shipment;
Five, packing list, bill of lading Commercial Invoice, PC Certificate, From M Number are submitted together to apply for SC Certificate;
VI. Send the SC Certificate to the Nigerian customer to complete the certification."
