History
On September 17, 1630, Boston was founded by Puritan immigrants from England.
In the early 1770s, the British attempted to take full control of the 13 colonies, primarily through taxation, prompting the Bostonians to start the American Revolution.
In 1773, the British government passed the Tea Tax Act in order to dump the East India Company's stock of tea. Resulting in many smuggled and locally grown tea merchants being unable to survive,
On February 16, 1773, more than 8,000 people in Boston rallied in protest. That night, 60 "Sons of Liberty," members of the Radical Democratic Society, disguised as Indians, boarded a tea boat under the leadership of Samuel Adams and John Hancock.
The radical democrats dumped 342 chests of tea from three East India Company ships into the sea in the famous Boston Tea Dumping Incident.
Boston was chartered in 1822 and officially gained city status.
