What is seamless steel pipe?

The steel pipe (with no weld on the wall) made by stamping and drawing with heated ingot is called seamless steel pipe. See the figure below:

Seamless steel pipes can be divided into many standards according to their different materials, uses and specifications (diameter and wall thickness). For example, there are many kinds of seamless steel pipes, such as seamless steel pipes for petroleum cracking, seamless steel pipes for high-pressure boilers, seamless steel pipes for aviation structural steel, seamless steel pipes for artillery shells, etc ... Because of their different types, specifications (diameter, wall thickness, length) and materials, their mechanical properties are also very different.

Seamless steel pipe has a hollow cross section and is widely used as a pipeline for conveying fluids (such as oil, natural gas, gas, water and some solid materials). Compared with solid steel such as round steel, steel pipe is lighter in weight under the same bending and torsion strength, and it is an economical cross-section steel. It is widely used to manufacture structural parts and mechanical parts, such as oil drill pipes, automobile transmission shafts, bicycle frames, steel scaffolding for construction, etc. It can improve the utilization rate of materials, simplify the manufacturing process, save materials and processing time, and has been widely used to manufacture circular parts.
