The 14th Five-Year Plan puts forward new requirements for the construction of new infrastructure, 5G network intelligence is actively promoted

The 14th Five-Year Plan puts forward the new requirements of "intelligent upgrading, integration and innovation" for new infrastructure construction.

In 2020, China's 5G network infrastructure construction practiced the "infrastructure demon" segment. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released the "2020 Communications Industry Statistical Bulletin", which shows that in 2020, more than 600,000 new 5G base stations were built, and all opened more than 718,000 5G base stations.

"With the moderate advancement of network infrastructure construction, reflecting the 'soft power' of 5G network intelligence is also being actively promoted under the guidance of the broad guidelines of the '14th Five-Year Plan'. " A few days ago, AsiaInfo CTO, senior vice president Dr. Ouyang Ye said in an interview with the Technology Daily reporter, 5G network intelligence is committed to making the 5G network planning, construction, optimization, maintenance of the whole life cycle more automated and intelligent, so that the network to "at will" and "autonomous" goal evolution. "The network will be more automated and intelligent in the whole life cycle of 5G network regulation, construction, optimization and maintenance.

The upgrading and innovation of the 5G industry has gradually become **** knowledge. To optimize the energy consumption of IoT terminals, for example, embedding AI in the 5G network can help base station power synergies, so that the "power to one place".

Not 4G out of the "C", 5G network so smart

"5G came, 4G how to do" once let the use of 4G network partners expressed concern. In fact, the intelligence of the 5G network can well solve this problem.

"Communication artificial intelligence in the 5G network has begun to have a lot of typical applications. For example, AsiaInfo Technology, in cooperation with an operator, through the wireless network performance data, measurement data, can more accurately deduce the coverage strength of the 5G base station and the volume of voice traffic, used to intelligently regulate and optimize the power consumption and coverage of the 5G base station, to achieve green energy saving of the 5G base station, and at the same time, regulate the power consumption of the 3G and 4G base stations, applied to protect the overall network coverage and performance." Ouyang Ye said that these are automatically accomplished through the algorithms of communication artificial intelligence.

The industry has given this intelligence an anthropomorphic name - "autonomy", i.e., intelligent autonomous networks.

In addition to communicating services in harmony with 3G and 4G, 5G intelligence has more and more difficult tasks.

The IMT-2020 5G Promotion Working Group (jointly promoted by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Development and Reform Commission (DRC), and the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST)) has long since quantified the quality objectives of 5G. In order to meet the diverse business needs of vertical industries such as industry, healthcare, and transportation served by 5G networks, 5G networks are required to increase traffic density by 1,000 times, increase the number of connected devices by 10-100 times, increase the user experience rate by 10-100 times, increase the battery life of IoT low-power terminals by 10 times, and increase the battery life of IoT low-power terminals by 10 times, and increase the battery life of end-to-end time-series. 10x increase and 5x reduction in end-to-end latency.

Algorithmic integration, this time with a "death order"!

It's the same communication network, so why does it need to be smart in the 5th generation (5G)? The third and fourth generations did not hear, not the same over?

In fact, the convergence of artificial intelligence and communications technology has begun to sprout in the 3G/4G era. A long time ago, the communications field had already incorporated algorithmic models into the 3GPP standard.

As early as 1999, 3GPP formally incorporated wireless channel algorithmic models such as COST into the specification. This was the first time that a communications international standard embedded relevant mathematical algorithms.

By 2008, the concept of communications intelligence was systematically introduced. The concept of "self-organizing networks" was explicitly included in the 3GPP standard, which was the second landmark convergence of communications and AI in 3GPP. However, in the following decade, communication and AI did not start the "honeymoon period". Ouyang Ye introduced, "because the 'self-organizing network' is not a mandatory option in the 3GPP standard, AI has not become a basic core component of the 3G/4G communication network of domestic and foreign operators.

Twenty-two years on, 3GPP, which became the standard-setter for 5G, finally defined AI for the first time in 2018 as a core network element of a 5G network. The change in standards makes the capabilities of AI, no longer an "accessory" to the communications network, but its core foundation.

"This means that 5G will essentially undergo a relatively big change, and the entire network ecosystem's body and mechanism will be accelerated in the direction of automation and intelligence." Ouyang Ye explained.

5G Innovation, Standards Peer, China Online!

If you think of 5G as a machine, it serves the industry and spells out speed, performance, experience, stability, and energy consumption. Whether it performs well or not depends on its "skeleton" of the AI to reach which paragraph.

"If the 5G machine itself does not build a good automation and intelligence capabilities, then the functions played outside the machine can not be intelligent." Ouyang Ye said that the 5G that needs to be integrated into AI includes: 5G core network, 5G base station, 5G transmission and IT network.

5G networks will have more "neuron" qualities after being empowered by AI. 5G networks, terminals, users, and services in a variety of dimensions of the network, the terminal, the user and the service data, will be distributed in multiple network elements of the network, to perceive and obtain information, to analyze and identify characteristics, and to achieve analysis and prediction. ......

5G network intelligence in the final analysis is the spell of technological innovation, according to reports, by the Chinese enterprises as the sponsor of the proposed standards have been repeatedly included in the 5G standard. Take AsiaInfo as an example, a total of 19 standard proposals have been adopted by the International Standards Organization (ISO). Chinese enterprises and research teams continue to be online in international standardization with their technical strength.
