What is the function of current limiting resistor of DC high voltage generator?

Function description of current limiting resistor of DC high voltage generator;

In general, the current-limiting resistor R should be connected in the AC or DC high-voltage test loop, as shown in the figure:

Its purpose is to limit the current when the test object C x discharges or breaks down in the circuit, so as not to damage the test equipment due to high voltage short circuit. However, in some high voltage test, it is not necessary to connect the current limiting resistor. Therefore, the following suggestions are put forward for the use of current limiting resistors:

1. It is not necessary to connect the current limiting resistor when conducting DC high-voltage test on power equipment such as zinc oxide arrester, high-voltage switch of common valve arrester and power transformer.

2. During the withstand voltage test of power cable or power capacitor, the current limiting resistor should be connected in series in the high voltage circuit. Simply put, when the product under test is capacitive, it is necessary to install a current-limiting resistor.

Use of current limiting resistor:

Just screw one end of the matching current-limiting resistor to the high-voltage output terminal at the top of the DC high-voltage generator voltage multiplier, and then connect the high-precision micro-ammeter to the current-limiting resistor, and connect it to the tested object through the high-voltage shielded wire for normal boost test.
